Comment:
Notes are very unstructured and hard to understand. They don't explain, they are just blanket statements most of the time. Make sure you make a copy of his notes files for yourself to add notes to to make more clear. He is very willing to help and explain personally most of the time though, was good at replying to my e-mails!

Awful! He teaches haphazardly, grades arbitrarily, and is usually unprepared. It doesn't matter how you do in the semester, but how you do on the final. At least that's what he says. Grades based on his interpretation of vague ?s. One semester I went everyday and engaged him, got a C. The next semester I never went, thanked him, got a B.

Have taken 2 of his courses. Dropped the 1st one. But got an A with the second one. There are my sum: (1) You have to prepare prior to the class. (2) Minimal knowledge of UNIX. (3) Expected to work real hard for the projects. (4) Must understand thoroughly the material. And (5) Prepare for the 'vague', strangle quizzes, questions.

He is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He acts like he is willing to help but then whenever you ask a question he responds with, "I don't think you understand the material." He also tests you over material that were never discussed in class. Don't take him, and if you do, GOOD LUCK!

Guy is horrible. Doesn't use Blackboard. Vague with assignments and quizzes. Grading style is nonsense. Avoid him if you can!

Opening a text file in vi and talking about it is not teaching. One time he just came into class and after 20 minutes said "I have nothing more to say" and then left. Gave us a project about how to tell if it's a cat's game in Tic Tac Toe (relevance???). Grading is moderately arbitrary. I feel like I've been robbed and have learned nothing.

Thumbs down. Don't take a class from him. Just don't do it. So unorganized and tests you on things he never taught you how to do.

Comment:
Class is very disorganized. We were required to buy three textbooks, none of which we teaches from, and he teaches to the advanced students pretty much exclusively. John has the knowledge, but is terrible about conveying it. The assignments are outlined poorly with little instructions and are immediately hard rather than increasingly hard. AVOID

Great Professor! Extremely concerned about students understanding the material and willingly stays after each and every class to answer questions. Easy to follow, if you have read up and have a slight grasp on the information from the book.

As others have said, he is hospitable, but he has no clue what it's like to learn. Math/Comp. Sci. majors do have to learn it for themselves, but they need an ordered, organized professor to give meaningful, concise lectures in an orderly fashion. Otherwise, we should only be paying for the textbook and teaching ourselves.

He's a great guy but if you want to learn anything you'll have to do it on your own. He knows what he's talking about but I don't think he really knows how to teach it. He's very hard to understand and I would not recommend the class to a student that needs to be taught and also a little guidance.

John is a great teacher. He knows his stuff and most people that complain simply dont work at the class materials. I've had him 3 times now and I've gotten A+ without killing myself because he makes it make sense.

He is a great professor! You don't ever have to come to class except for on test days, if you are one of those who can study well on your own. He is extremely concerned about everyone passing. I met him a couple times outside of class. He was willing to meet at my convenience. He is a very nice teacher. Lectures kind of hard to follow though.

Hard to follow.... Bad handwriting, assigns alot of homework that takes forever because its online. Tells you what problems will be on the test....then puts completely different types on the actual exam. Not organized, and sometimes doesnt even know if he is doing the problems in class correctly. I had to try and teach myself calc from the book.

Antognoli is the go-to guy for Unix and web programming. I'm not sure how he is at other classes. You need to know unix pretty well to get by in his web class. Somewhat disorganized, but pretty easy at the end of the day. He assigns a lot more work than some professors, but I like it. It's very hands-on.

He's a very nice guy & really does want you to learn everything about calculus but it's pretty hard to learn when everything is unorganized! He messes up problems in class all the time and has no lesson plan! DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PASS!

Saved three of the nine chapters covered in class for the last two weeks of the 15 week class. His tests are very difficult to understand. Class is not difficult if you do the reading. Understanding what he is trying to say is the most difficult part of the class.

Very nice guy, really concerned about individual progress, and extremely willing to do whatever it takes to help you learn the material. His lectures are not well organized, but they make sense if you keep up with homework and pay attention. He helped me overcome my fear of math. Not a hard prof unless you don't try at all.
