He loves to talk, especially subtly encouraging students to become self-aware. Students were assigned 3 novels that were to be read simultaneously (alternating days), and expected to be able to write about the big picture. Syllabus comes off as intimidating, but is only a front to scare you into caring about the class ;) Super helpful outside class

W. John Coletta is the coolest guy ever. I would highly recommend taking his classes; theres a lot of assigned reading every week, & you get quizzed on it, but its generally pretty interesting, and you learn a lot about the world and get a chance to open your mind during class discussions. Only 1-2 big writing assignments all semester, no final.

I can only speak to his environmental writing course. Several hours of reading per week are necessary, and the classes are mind-numbing. The way he organizes his classes and assignments appears entirely dictated by laziness (student graded assignments, no lecture, no exams). Rather than a real discussion be prepared to listen to him monologue.

He required class to read 3 novels at the same time, with a paper on each section of each book. Quizzes every day of class on readings. Lots of tangents and doesnt make much sense. He is a good professor just likes to talk, a lot. Quiz heavy and lots of writing and reading.

I absolutely loved him as my English 101 professor. He is so kind and really cares about the environment. There are quizzes every class, but he curves them and if you read the chapters you will get good grades. Definitely would recommend taking classes with him.

Great teacher, you learn a lot even if it wasn't assigned. He is very knowledgeable in many subjects. Lectures were always fun and he is a pretty easy grader. Just show up and participate.

Mr. Coletta makes you work for your grade. He has quizzes every class period, but you have no final at the end of the semester. He is very crazy as a teacher, but that makes him super interesting. Also, If you are a Natural Resource Major, take his English courses because it centers around Natural Resource topics.

LOVE Dr. Coletta! By far one of the best classes I have taken. I dreaded the quizzes each class period but he curves them a ton. It is a challenging course but if you read and keep up on your journals it's okay. You have to work for your grade but a really entertaining class. Just know it is a toughie but his tangents make it fun/interesting.

One of my favorite professors. You do a lot of reading with only one big paper. Quizzes on every reading but uses a major curve. Group panels that lead discussion on the reading (though he tends to interject a lot). Very funny, I loved this class!

Quiz each class on the reading assignments, question log and discussion papers each week, also a detailed reading journal and a short paper due at the end of the semester. If you like a challenge, take his ENGL 202 course! He is extremely intelligent and quite the character, my favorite class of the semester by far.

He's fun, pretty easy, and a really nice guy. You have to read a lot, but the final paper was fun, and the quizzes weren't bad since he grades on a curve. Don't take the class if you'd rather write than read, and certainly don't take it if you don't want to hear about religion in every class period. That was the most annoying thing EVER!

Coletta is one of my favorites thus far. He gives quizzes everyday, but are fairly easy if you do the reading. Usually assigns interesting reads. Has panel discussions every class period, which usually ends up in him rambling about something that "relates" to the story. Easy clas, great professor. Definately recommend Coletta. :)

Very interesting professor. Likes to get caught up in his own thoughts and takes lots of time rambling off track. Overall easy class and very interesting topics. Read the books for daily quizzes.

Awesome guy, really smart and interesting. Sometimes he rambles but at least he's not boring. He does assign a lot of reading for freshmen english, but its all really interesting (in my opinion) and really easy. He gives a lot of reading quizes, but they're not too hard and he drops your lowest 2 so its pretty easy to get an A.

This man is so smart, and so interesting. He'll stretch the way you think. Will help you one-on-one, if needed. He was kindly agreeable in resending class e-mails when I mistakenly deleted them, and never acted put out by the bother. I had him for Eng 101, and waited 3 semesters to take Eng 102, just so I could get into his class. So worth it.

There was A LOT of reading for a freshman course. You had to make sure to read every single reading since there was a quiz every class period. He grades on a curve all the time, so as long as you read you'll do fine. Every class period is the same and it gets a little boring after the first couple of weeks. Very smart professor though.
