ucsc is losing its best professor. i was devastated when i found out he was leaving. if you had the chance to take one of his classes you know what i'm talking about. he could make any topic fun to learn about. hilarious in the classroom, i looked forward to each lecture... bye professor :-(

Prof. Doris has been my favorite professor ever. His lectures kind of go all over the place, but they are always extreemly interesting. His impressive appearance, hand/body movements, and constant wondering make it hard to pay attention to what he is saying at times, but that's ok. ;)

I've had him for Wilderness Studies, Epistemology, and Ancient Greeks. Intimidating at first, but awesome. I've wanted to take his Karate class too, but now I won't have the chance. UCSC is losing their most worthwhile prof.

One of my absolute favorite profs at UCSC... he is hilarious. And hot in a kind of Billy-Bob-Thorton, "I just woke up in the forest five minutes ago before coming to teach this class", kind of way. I'm guessing he spends his spare time smoking weed with his TAs and setting Hummers on fire.

Nothing was acomplished in this class. Doris rarley spoke a word, the entire class was discussion between students. Too bad, everyone went in circles the entire time. Interesting though, no tests, class was outside so people "smoked" in class.

A philosophy professor who actually WORKS in his field. Finally psychology and philosophy working TOGETHER! Fascinating to listen to, expecially if you like obscure wilderness-related examples (woodpeckers wrap their tongues around their brains to keep them from scrambling?) and political jabbing.

Doris is a stud. I like how the other comment says it. Badass, smartass, and the wittiest lumberjack I've ever seen...roughishly. The philosophy department is taking a huge loss, (like they needed it now) but he's actually doing REAL philosophy, so we'll hear from St. Louis.

He wanted a chili pepper- not the word 'hot'. So here it is, you can now be associated with a little red pepper instead of your self-indulgent lectures.

I love Doris. He is a badass, smartass, entertaining, engaging and enlightening teacher....and hot. Well, I guess that is in the eye of the beholder. He is hot in that semi-creepy, mountain-man, possibly aspergers-way.

SO SAD he's leaving. he makes something as dry as ancient greek phil into something hilarious and intriguing. SO intelligent, SO witty, and SO funny. too good for santa cruz, so i understand why he's leaving... but dammit.

This guy is awesome. It wouldn't be a shock if he left UCSC for something more prestigious before too long. I wish that I had more time at UCSC so I could take more upper division classes from him.

had doris for wilderness studies: perhaps a pet project of his. no tests/papers, journals collected a few times. funny guy, love to take him to the Ave on wed night, but never really said anything particularly insightful. big on attendence, don't be late!

Intelligent and funny, but not an entirely profound professor. Somewhat pretensious and arrogant. (sometimes pauses for lengths -no doubt in order to appear especially deep -in the middle of the class to "think" over "deep" questions).

I had Doris for Intro to Ethical Theory. He chose a really suitable book to study and read from, his lectures were loosely structured, but always on topic. Very intelligent and quick witted.

One of the best academic experiences I have ever had. An incredibly intelligent person-- eloquent, humorous, complex. I recommend any of his classes.
