Grades papers extremely tough. If you are looking for an easy english class don't take Dunlap. But, if you want to become a sharp writer he is good. Also he is very entertaining and says a lot of funny stuff.

Dunlap is a literary genius and one of the best professors I have ever had. He can be difficult and downright frustrating at times. Persevere through this and you will come to love his class. My writing skills have grown exponentially and he teaches in a way that you not only learn classical literature but love it as well. Take his class.

This guy HATED our class. the 8 am was brutal. expect to write a paper a week and NOT improve. TIP: don't write about anything of substance because instead of correcting your style and grammar, he'll debate your opinion. BIGGEST WASTE OF MY TIME. and I actually went in wanting to improve.

It's a shame that the only way to learn anything about Linguistics at SCU is to sign up for The John Dunlap Variety Show, a full ten weeks of cartoon character imitations, repetitive tangential rants, and a few linguistics-related PSAs sprinkled in between. He's funny, but the class is high-school level, and not worth the $2000 pricetag.

Dunlap is a genius, but as such, he is prone to varying degrees of madness. He does a lot of funny voices and gestures, seemingly unknowingly. His grading is easy to understand and live up to. You learn a lot and become a total pro at the writing assignments toward the end.

His class is really boring. He seems to like to teach early in the morning! All of the class work is pointless the entire class is basically him having you write papers that he grades ridiculously. He is also really conservative so be careful what you write about. He is funny and nice, very quirky. It wasn't horrible but I wouldn't so it again.

This prof is a REALLY dry teacher. You have to attend class because he takes attendance and grades essays pretty hard. He prides himself on giving out a very small number of A's.

Amazingly funny & entertaining teacher. The material was fairly uninteresting for most students but everyone loved coming to his class because he's so much fun. Makes strange sound effects & tells hilarious anecdotes. Is incredibly smart. Grades on how you say things, just appreciates what you say. Loves baking chocolate chip cookies!

Very quirky, dry sense of humor. Usually the only one laughing at his jokes because ppL don't catch on fast enough. He grades hard at the beginning, but his expectations are very clear. Do as he says and you'll do fine and become a much better writer. Fantastic professor!

Dunlap's been teaching since the age of the dinosaurs, so although you have to hear him complain about the hassle of getting old, he has teaching English completely figured out. There are six papers and one test, but the papers are only one to three pages long, and you get the assignment at least a week ahead of time. Great professor.

Dunlap is one of the best teachers at SCU. He makes the subject come alive--even something like Latin--and always takes the time to help students outside of class. I took 5 classes from him as an undergrad and wish I could take more.
