Comment:
John is one of the best professors/mentors I've ever had. He wants so badly to see his students succeed. He hates when class is over because he loves teaching so much, but his passion is endearing. I'd recommend visiting him during office hours, if you get the chance. He went to Standford & Princeton, and has a wealth of knowledge to offer you!

A genius that I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from. He has his quirks in the classroom BUT his passion is unsurpassed, unlike I've ever seen before. He wants so badly to see his students achieve great things. If you want an experience, not just a class, I would highly recommend John!

His teaching style requires getting used to, probably two classes. He has a set way of approaching poetry analysis ,but it made everyone much better. It's an easy class if you love poetry and are interested in improving as a writer. He's easy going if you need extra time on an an assignment. Workshop is tough-love but invaluable. Brilliant mind.

Very knowledgeable and passionate about confessional poetry. Understanding - if you're late on an assignment, it won't destroy your grade. I selected "non-mandatory" for attendance, but the truth is I'm unsure; I never wanted to skip the class because I enjoyed it so much (-----words I've never spoken before).

This guy is extremely intelligent and worldly and will talk about things from Plato to architecture. His class is a little intimidating, the tests are difficult, but he is a worthwhile professor. Recommended.

Very interesting poetry workshop. Professor seemed actively interested in helping us improve our work, and wasn't usually too much of a jerk about it. I'd highly recommend him to any aspiring poets who want a thorough workshopping of their poetry.

He is a great great man with a wealth of knowledge. His resume speaks for itself. Please take Dr. Gery. Like the other student said, it hurts because he loves you. He really does seem to care about his students and their development.

Attendence is a must. He gets pretty upset if you don't show up without talking to him first. He is kind of cryptic about assignments and quizzes. Very interesting though, especially about background of writers and historical context. Heavy concentration on poetry.

Before his class, I was a terrible essay writer. He knows what it takes to make a decent writer and I would strongly recommend him for composition classes. Yes, he does ask quiz (and drill) students on the material, but this is done with good intentions and the benefits are clear - you become a better writer!

I hope this is one tenured prof UNO lets go due to Hurricane Katrina lower-enrollment. He is boring as all-get-out. He's also inappropriately flirtatious, which is off-putting. He needs some education in Women's Studies - very **** in his demeanor. Avoid.

BORING! B-O-R-I-N-G. This prof rambles on, shuffles papers, goes off on numerous irrelevant digressions. Avoid if your schedule will allow.

The worst teacher I ever had. His mind is some-where up in the clouds. Also, females beware -- it's also on you. A warning. And he's ugly!
