He is a great teacher for Mechanics of Materials. He goes over ALL homework problems before they are due. He also gives relevant examples. Tests can be tedious, but if you have a previous exam, you will do great. Very knowledgeable, occasionally gets off subject. Highly recommended however...

Dr. Gilbert flies through the lecturer, but usually gives you some breaks as he talks about Concrete Canoe, etc. I actually enjoyed the passion he showed for his career and teaching. I would certainly take him again if the opportunity presented itself.

He definitely knows what he's talking about. Goes VERY fast in lecture, works all the homework problems on the board. If you understand the concepts your good on the test. He gets very distracted with STARS and concrete canoe, but its nice to have that break in class to soak in what he just flew through in lecture.

Judging Fall06 class…Very passionate â€" IMO, one of the best at UAH - gets off topic talking about concrete canoe, STARS, life advice, and ex-wife (Dr. Leonard?); to make up for lost time talks like an auctioneer. Reads straight from “book of notes”. He works HW problem beforehand in class. Get a copy of old exam & you cannot not make an A.

Awsome instructor. Had him last year for Mech. of Materials. You will learn more about STARS and the concrete canoe than you might want to know. Classes are roughly 1/2 related material, 1/2 STARS & Canoe. Tests and homework are EASY as long as you attend class and TAKE NOTES! Write down everything he puts on the board and you're gauranteed to pass

The concepts in this class are relatively simple. Gilbert talks like an auctioneer, but he is a very good instructor and presents the material in a very understandable manner. Do and understand the hmwk. and you'll breeze through any class he teaches.
