His grading makes no sense, even if you do exactly what he tells you to do he'll still give you a C. This class wasted my time.

He shouldn't be a teacher. He obviously knows a lot about scriptwriting but can't teach at all. He never explained anything in depth and I felt that he was a lazy teacher. He would always end class early while barely explaining the assignment. It might as well of been an online class because I learned everything online. Wouldn't recommend.

CDES-206 with John is... challenging. The lecture portion of the class can be difficult to focus in because of the slow pacing and his quiet demeanor. He often takes anywhere from 5-15 minutes to setup at the beginning of class. The lab is more enjoyable, perhaps working with smaller groups is more his speed. Overall, I'd say 7/10.

It should be made clear that most grades students give here rate ease of the class, rather than quality of the teacher. Grant refuses to surrender his duty as educator to the demands of entitled, insincere modern students. He reminds us that talking over others is rude, and that the world is tough. I failed 103 due2 laziness. Keep teaching us Grant

Grant is probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. He would always come to class late with nothing prepared. Once while discussing an assignment after class that I had to redo do to his lack of explanation, he emailed me right after I left attacking me and telling me I was an unappreciative student.

BAD teacher for photography. You won't learn anything, class takes forever because he makes everything super complicated. I dreaded going to this class because it was so boring and not at all inspirational which was really sad for me because I love photography. He can't answer anyones questions when they ask because he doesn't even know the answer

Professor Grant is really nice. He seems like a cool person outside of the classroom to get to know. IN the classroom however is the most complicated thing EVER. The assignments and exercises are simple and interesting. BUT he makes this stuff so boring and way more complicated then it needs to be. He makes me NOT want to show up for his class!

I had no idea so many things go into to deciding what goes into a movie. Interesting examples. But he sits in the back of the class during videos and kicks out anybody on a laptop or texting. Have to read text for projects but not tests. It would be better as a small class and not 100 in there. And not at night.

Alright, here's the deal. Grant is nice as well as friendly, but I was disappointed in how boring CDES-103 was. It was an intro to script writing class and it was easy with simple homework, but it didn't grab my attention or make me be creative. That's what I wanted, but it wasn't a creative scriptwriting class.

My only complaint is that he is too easy on the high school morons who can't log off facebook and pay attention. We don't have to memorize powerpoint outlines for an exam...we actually get to think..except the morons. Take him if your are serious about media.

Where do I start? If you are interested in scriptwriting, teach yourself. Chances are you have to take this class though. This class is unorganized and really boring. It's not very hard if you show up, but it's hard to want to show up.

This guy is ridiculous! We didn't learn anything, his tests were a joke, the only reason worth going was to laugh at how ridiculous it is. If you go everyday and write down the 2 lines of notes he gives you'll probably get an A.

Easy for the most part, but extremely boring. We watched random documentaries and clips of old movies. No required text, and maybe two homework assignments throughout the semester. He is a confusing teacher, so it would be smart to attend class and pay attention to his random thoughts because his tests are pretty much the same. Nice guy though.

I'm writing this in the middle of COMM141. This teacher is absolutely worthless. We watch documentaries and I absolutely no idea what he is trying to teach us. You can probably learn more about "Media Aesthetics" by listening to the DVD audio commentary on Mallrats. This guy SUCKS. Kill me now.

I had him for two classes this semester. 103 was a good class, its easy as long as you show up for class and do the assignments. 141 was a disaster IMO. He did not follow the syllabus at all. All we did was watch documentaries on documentaries but it was interesting and I got a decent grade.

John doesn't teach JOUR310 anymore. Shame, because he's the best. He studied journalism/film at UC Berkeley during Watergate. Started teaching 12 yrs. ago, before that he owned his own video production company. It shows. Loves film and documentary. Very professional but also approachable. Very cool guy. Low stress. Teaches cultural/media literacy.

I thought it was cool class as we got to see how incredibly stupid some students are about politics, media, and the works. Grant is a good guy and I learned plenty from the class. its easy and interesting, we watch a lot of movies and quizzes are a piece of cake.
