I wasn't ready for the amount of work, but hey, this is a college class, and one should be able to perform at the college level. Class was always interesting, and the material was relevant to what was going on in the real world. I appreciate how Mr. Gravener cares about students and his work. He does not require long papers but you need to keep up with reading to participate in class and do the homework well. Do not bs your schoolwork and yourself. READ!

In English 1B he was rude. We had to read seven books and 7 handouts that were not given out in a timely manner from the instructor, yet essays were due on time. He grades hard and always disrespects women and people of color. This instructor stated, "he has the power to fail you for what you wear to his class if he wants to." I had to drop.

Awesome professor, fun class to be in, no filter kinda guy. He knows English like the back of his hand, but not math =P. Enjoyable, mixes up what we do, and can make class enjoyable - but its no fun when you're talking to a bunch of zombies - so student participation and work outside of class is necessary if English isn't your best subject.

fun and nice teacher i ever had. three essays & 1 research paper (your choice), 1 45 minutes book presentation (Choose from 7 books), and final essay. I love class discussion the most which is very helpful and interesting. You won't regret taking his class. It's too bad he don't teach 1B in EVC.

mr.g is a great teacher, i have read some comments saying pick a different proffesor because you can earn an easier A, how are you suppose to get the satisfaction of learning if you want the easy way out? serisouly john breaks down the work step by step, its so easy to follow, if you want an "A" truly, then work for it.

Best teacher ever. I missed the final due to surgery, and he still helped me find a way to take the final and pass the class. Your grade is mostly based on essays, which isn't too bad, provided that you actually put thought into your writing. Would totally recommend as a teacher.

While he may be slow in getting essays back, I got mine and he was more than willing to work with me in improving it. I was always able to get a higher grade. Discussions were fun, interesting, and thought provoking, and if you participate, you will get a very fair grade. I told my friends to take his class; he does seem to have some groupies.

I took his 1A class and found him to be rather humorous, flamboyant, and overly opinionated. His class is fun, but he seems to have trouble grading and returning things (laziness?); he only returned about 3 assignments at the end of the semester after we asked almost every week. You will not be sure of your grade until its on your transcript.

I cannot believe that there are not more reviews for Mr. Gravener. His class was the most interesting one I took last semester. He made us work (meaning there was a lot of writing), be he always made it interesting. He really helped me with my writing, and I always hated writing before. As he says, "Question everything."
