I wish every day I had not took this class. All he does is talk about his political point of view. If you dont agree with him, he treats you like you stupid and tries to make your life harder. dont take him.

Comment:

He's one of my favorite professors! I really enjoy listening to his lectures and I feel like I am learning a lot while in his class. He also usually adds plenty of humor to his lectures. His homework assignments are usually very long and require a lot of reading, but they really helped me to understand the material. Overall, great professor!

Comment:

Graduated 2006 with Major in History. Dr. Hennen was not only a mentor to me, but a great friend after taking most all of his classes at MSU. Without a doubt, the leading scholar on the labor movement in Appalachia, and one of the foremost National scholars on Labor and Westward Expansionism. Take his classes! You won't be sorry.

Very liberal, and not all that receptive to more conservative views. Very pro-union.If you are conservative, keep them quiet. Gives take home tests and expects college level work, but fair and helpful. His nearly socialist attitude can be grating if you don't agree, but if you do the work, you'll get the grade. Absenteeism not advised.

Hennon is my favorite professor that I've had so far. He's easygoing, he gives papers instead of tests, and he provides endless visual help along with his easy-to-follow lectures. He's by far one of the greatest at MSU.

I loved Dr. Hennen. The class is very laid back and he's honestly interested in what he teaches. He's very lenient and understanding. Even his lectures are interesting. I'd definitely take him again.

Simply put Dr.Hennen is one of the best educators I have learned under. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his material. He is not overly difficult but he definitely expects you contribute, learn and do your work. He is a true history buff and can make history come alive and seem applicable to modern times. I'll be taking him again

Teaches this class more like a history class (i hate history) but i really enjoyed the class. Very good teacher, tends to ramble, but very interesting. Keeps the class fun. Grades papers a bit tough, but will offer re-writes.

Very Hard...I took Appalachian History to learn about...Appalachia, but instead I'm learning about labor issues and that's about it...I'm not really a history buff so that may be my problem, but Hennen is pretty hard when it comes to papers and stuff. Actually, that's all you do in this class, read stuff that's hard to understand and write papers.

I hated his attitude and his class. I found him to be pompus and unapproachable. As an elementary education major I felt neglected in the Appalachian His Class. Did not relate the subject to my major. All education majors would be better off switching components than taking his course. He sees the world as his, and we're just lucky to live in it.:(

Knows his material. I don't really like history but it wasn't too bad. His tests are a kind of tough, but the study guides really help. Offers some extra credit. A lot of reading but never quizzes over it. Few other assignments besides exams.

Great! Gets off track on lectures sometimes, but still very interesting. As long as you take advantage of his study guide, you shouldn't have a problem getting a good grade. Must attend class. Lots of reading, too. It does irritate him when it is obvious the reading assignment hasn't been read. Didn't think I could enjoy a history class this much.
