Dr. Maple is really an amazing teacher. I thoroughly enjoy his class (although there's a TON of reading). It's a hard class, I won't lie, but if you do the work you'll be fine. One of the toughest profs at OC, but he is fair and knowledgeable. Also, he's surprisingly funny.

He is VERY tough. I enjoyed how passionate he was about history. Love him as a person; but he was difficult as a professor

I was graded harder by Maple than the average student. I had to really bust my butt--why? Because he is my DAD. He wanted to make sure there was no favoritism. That said, to all the little whiners, piss off. It's college, your profs aren't there to wipe your butt. God help you if you decide to go to grad school. I had him for many classes.

I took this class in 1979 and I think about it often. The things that he taught me have influenced my life in many ways. DonĂ¢€™t underestimate the importance of learning to write an essay or to contemplate history.

Great teacher. I learned a lot from his class. Yes it is a lot of reading, yes the tests are hard, but if it wasnt then it wouldnt be worth it. He know his stuff and is actually very entertaining in class. Needs to work on the "ums" and "uhs."

I'll concede he knows his topic. Prepare to bask in his superiority. Workload is disproportionately heavy to the actual difficulty of subject. Beware of this, engineering majors. Generally dismissive of your intellect unless you are among the "Vienna Chosen." Proof it's possible to be narrow-minded and intelligent.

The lowest grade I ever got in college was the C I got in this class. His classes are much harder than lower level Gen. eds are designed to be. If all classes were as demanding as his, there would be much fewer college graduates in the world. Other than the utter ridiculity of the workload, Maple is a great professor.

the good: the man is incredibly knowledgable, and can explain thoroughly every event that has taken place in the last 5000 years. the bad: has a tendency to mix in conservative opinions with historical fact. ex: will discredit non-christian ideas while accepting blindly the christian ones. but hey, its oc. expect to hear "pregnant pole-vaulter"

If you're a college student willing to actually read the book, listen to the lectues and (sorry guys, it's true) actually THINK, you will learn a lot and really appreciate history and your accomplishment. If you are the typical lazy college student, you'll be one of the above whiners.

We had to write twenty essays. One page each, and single spaced. Lots of boring lectures... Oh, and about half the points on each test come from multiple choice questions, the other half come from an essay. Way too hard for a general ed class. Take this class somewhere else!

Mapel likes to say "ummm" about 40 million times a class period. Yes the class is difficult, but for those who came to college to learn something, he will make us succed. You can try to take it else where, but I'd say your a pansey who's just cop
