Comment:

Very passionate about marketing. The class is only 100 points total. Quizzes are a bit tough, but are only worth 5 points each, so do the homework. Final project is a group presentation, so pick a good group. Book is not mandatory, but it helps on the quizzes. If you have any questions, then go to his office hours. He is more than willing to help.

Comment:

One of the hardest classes I've taken based purely on grading criteria. Otherwise, he is a wonderful professor and a great guy. Learned a lot, gained experience, and truly feel more prepared to find a job in my field after working with him. Sometimes he can be tough, but just remember, its tough love and he's doing it to make you a better candidate

Comment:

McGrath is a great professor inside the classroom. He tries to make everything as simple as possible because he honestly wants you to understand and learn it. His grading system is very clear, and you know exactly what he is expecting of you. Not a big fan of group projects but you get to choose your topic. Actually read the book - its a big help

Comment:

Ever have a class where it's required but you don't have much of an interest in the class. Well that's what I thought when I had to take Principles of Marketing. Wow was I wrong, at least with Dr. McGrath. He is a very great professor who would help anyone in class with anything they needed. Definitely would recommend as a professor.

Comment:

Marketing isn't rocket science and McGrath makes that clear. Very interesting topics and doesn't try and make it seem like he knows everything even though he is very knowledgeable in his field. Always willing to help with lecture questions. Definitely a must take professors for business majors!

Pretty good professor. Explains things well, won't really give any surprise quizzes or anything. Took for Principles of Marketing and it wasn't hard to get a good grade on quizzes and homework. Did not care for group project he assigns. Highly recommend the Connect access for practice quizzes.

Dr. McGrath is by far my favorite teacher at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. His teaching style is excellent, every class was informative but also extremely fun. I will say that the projects he assigns are not always easy however if you put in the hard work an effort you will do very well in his classes. I recommend everyone to take him!

Johnny is my fav prof!! He's smart, helpful and he encourages you to be creative. This class is really fun and I learned so so much from it. No exams in John's upper level classes. All we did in this class was just 4 projects that are all very interesting. My fav is Bringing Pricing Alive. It is a shame I didn't get to take more of John's classes

No exams -- all we did was just 5 case analysis and 1 team project. The cases could be a little annoying at the beginning but gets easier and easier and it actually improves my skills a lot. The team project is super long and time consuming BUT it's gonna be a good addition to the resume because the projects are all hands-on real world.

I've taken Professor McGrath for Principles, Research, Management & Pricing Management and I also have him for Promotion next semester, he is hands down the best professor in the business department (& probably on the campus). His courses are always hands on and requires some work but he's always there to help. HE'S A BRO. #JohnnyMarketing

The best professor I've ever taken at UPJ. I had him for Pricing management, promotion management, and Marketing management; and all those classes were my favorites. You actually learn in his classes, stuff sinks in, and the projects you do actually are amazing and beneficial to you. I wish I would have known about him when ever I took principles!

I took Dr. McGrath for Marketing Management. He was great! His lectures were always really helpful and interesting. He was always available for help. Class wasn't easy, but it wasn't hard. He makes you work for your grade. At the end of the day, whatever grade you get is what you earned.

I had no interest in marketing until this class. He makes it interesting and fun. My only complaint is his grading system. 100 points. You fail a quiz/assignment, good luck. He tells you right up front it's pretty hard to get an A in his class. Since I'm not a marketing major I didn't care to really focus on it.

McGrath made this class pretty interesting. He is tough on some aspects, if you use your cell phone in class you have to leave the class, even if you are taking a quiz. There is only 100 points in the class but its only little quizes, you have to read the book. Over all good class

He is one of the best professors at UPJ. McGrath has a great deal of real-world experience to relate to his classes. He is in his office every day if you need any help. His explanations of the course topics are easy to unerstand because of his teaching method. Prof. McGrath is a extremely, well rounded person.

I am an accounting and finance major but his class was by far my favorite at this college. He is very intersting and applies stuff to real life. Always willing to help and easy if you go to class and pay attention! Love this professor...very cool!
