Usually easy to get ahold of during office hours. Does not follow the syllabus at all so get ready for last minute changes to assignments. When you write a paper he refuses to give A's no matter the quality of work (he tells the class he wont give A's on papers). You have to show up to class everyday to pass, attendance is mandatory.

Spends most of his time telling you stories and is genuinely trying to get you to learn. However, does not grade papers until months later and can't make good use of the time in class. You're in for a rough finals week with him he plans a test same day as the essay final and a 8-10 pg. paper due that same week.

This is an old review, as I took his Beat Lit class ca. 1994. I thought I'd look him and I'm glad to see he's still at Mesa. John was a great teacher, who was clearly passionate about the subject. I truly enjoyed his class. I learned so much. I hope he's still teaching this class. He had a big impression on me, even 20+ years later.

He is a caring professor but what he was teaching was hard to understand and didn't include power points. He is not a difficult grader so that helps. He doesn't respond to emails quick and has other obligations before his students so it is difficult to get a hold of him, especially at the end of semester when you have questions about your grade

Great professor! Except the man has a tendency to talk a lot and doesn't necessarily prep for quizzes. Even though makes you write a lot of papers, he prepares you for other classes that requires you to write essays and he gives good feedback. Would take another class by him.

He is very mono-tone and it was very hard for me to pay attention during class and I always pay attention. I was sitting front and center and I feel asleep a couple of time

He was an awful teacher, he doesn't prepare well and his quizzes aren't worded very well either. It takes him forever to fix grades as well as just put grades in. He's to severe on grading essays and get ready to waste a lot of paper in his class. I didn't learn a single thing in his class.

Get ready to fall asleep during the reader, the novels are long and boring, his lectures are long and pointless and he's incredibly nit picky.

He is an awful professor. Probably the worst class I've taken at CMU and mythology was really interesting. Although participation counts, his tests are hard and he doesn't word them well or prepare the class. We covered material on the test right before the test. Expect to come every class and read A LOT. Also, give him 2 months to grade anything.

Takes attendance for a grade, but you have to ask a question to even get full credit for the day. Will talk down to students rudely sometimes. Has trouble keeping up with syllabus and will drone on about topics without good reason much of the time. Don't suggest, he is also fairly hard grader on papers, and does not grade them for over a month.

If you're like me, you might be taking this class because you think it will be easy! Wrong!! The lectures are interesting, however, he rambles a lot. Also, if you're not into writing papers, perhaps you should pick a different class. The exams are often 65+ questions and moderately difficult. It's interesting material, but most certainly not easy.

Worst teacher I've ever had. He assigns two papers during the semester. It's been over a month since we turned in the first one and he still hasn't returned it to us. He also slacked off in class and fell behind so now he's making us take the chapter test that we fell behind on and the final all on the day of the final. So two tests on final day.

He's a good teacher and really knows his stuff. Don't expect for him to follow any rhyme or reason in lecture though. He doesn't use a power point and often gets distracted and off track. We had to cut an entire book from our class because we were so behind. He is really interesting to listen to though and his lectures are enjoyable despite it all.

He knows his subject matter, but his voice is very monotone, and it's easy to get bored easily. He's not very helpful when you have issues and concerns with the class, and he's also not very understanding when life happens. Do your best to avoid him- there are better English professors at the school.

Honestly did not enjoy this class. I was bored and he taught more history than he did English. All the readings were similar, which isn't to great when you don't like them. I don't expect to like them all, but I expect to have some variety. He is never truely clear of his expectations, I always missed something somewhere somehow.

His class is pretty boring if you have a short attention span. Mythology was interesting though.... I didn't read any books and still did pretty well. He gets a little crazy but he's passionate about what he does. Mixed feelings about whether I would recommend him, but it's not the worse class on campus. Kinda annoying
