Comment:

Unfortunately unavoidable in civil engineering. Lectures are mostly just tangents about stuff unrelated to class. You will learn basically nothing from Oyler, but have to go to classes because there is an attendance quiz every class. The good news is its almost impossible to get a C, but at the same time impossible to get an A.

He is a professor that expect you to understand anything on the lecture notes by listening to him talk about how wealthy his son is. Tests are too long to finish in a 50 minutes lecture. Lecture notes and homework are difficult to understand.

Dr. Oyler is a breath of fresh air from your typical professor. He is more concerned with the student understanding the material instead of worrying about the grade. His office hours are useful not only for his class, but any other class. I call him the "oracle." He knows his stuff. He's a great asset to the students.

I Had DR Oyler for a couple classes between 1998 and 2002. I am sure he is retired by now. I miss him dearly and loved going to his office nearly every day over that 4-year period. Such a great guy.

For statics, which I'm sure is like the rest of his classes, you have to show effort. Attendance quizzes for progress and attendance. He learns everyone's name and who they are so do not skip these (it's only a 50 minute class). Don't fall behind on homework, do as soon as possible. Go to office hours and you will get a good grade.

Lecture can be confusing and hard to follow but he is very willing to help. A great teacher and I'd recommend him to anyone. Class requires a lot of homework and attendance quizzes everyday so go to every lecture, do every homework, go to office hours and you'll have an easy time
