I have never had a teacher this tough on his students. I found his Exams hard to follow and they seemed to be based on the most obscure pieces of information from both the book and power point. Don't take his class unless you have zero flaws in your writing.

This is by far the hardest course that I have ever taken at CMU, and it's not because of the material. I took this class as a UP and he teaches the class like we are all Major students. I always attend class and take notes on all of powerpoint but still find myself struggling coming exam time. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!

Sits beside his powerpoint encyclopedia of information. Contradicting information included, only homework is to read two books. That's the easy part. His exam and quiz questions are misleading and confusing. Which account for almost all of your grade. Truly inspiring, enlightening information over a subject that little pertains to the typical.

Don't take this class! I thought this class would be interesting. It wasn't. He gives an unfair amount of informations for the quizzes & tests. Then he pulls out the smallest bits of information and tests on that. He also e-mails around 10 times a day with just junk. His power points are unorganized. And his lectures makes no sense.

Overall a very good professor. Not the most interesting lectures, but if you pay attention you will learn a lot. He knows the Middle East very well and will teach you a lot of interesting things about the cultures. The book he makes you read is better than most you'll have to read at college. Overall very good proffessor with a lot of knowledge.

The class seems a little intimidating at first, but the tests are easier than you think. As long as you study you'll be fine. Talk to him out of class, he is one of the kindest people you'll ever meet and he's really helpful with any questions you have. Tends to go quickly through the lectures, so bring a laptop to take notes.

Difficult class. I took this class because I needed the u.p. I should have taken it credit no credit because i dedicated to much time to studying and book reports. I was interested in the subject; it was just taught in a way that was difficult to follow. nice guy, tough class. :/

The subject is GREAT. The professor's teaching... not so much. Much of it is slides of maps and geography, and him just talking. I recommend bringing a voice recorder of some sort, he goes quickly and seamlessly. Not a bad teacher, just difficult to keep up with!

Took attendance every class, not sure if it counts against you or not. Pretty easy class, just make sure you attend to get the notes. I studied the day before for each exam and got an A. He is a nice guy and knows what he is talking about. I would recommend this class.

I dropped this class because my schedule was overwhelming, but I would recommend it, as long as you have the time to devote. I thought that the material for the test was a little unclear, but he is genuinely the kindest professor. He was very understanding when I dropped the course. I would take a class with him in the future. Very Nice Guy!!!

He can lecture slowly sometimes, and the class may fall behind. You really HAVE to do the reading, because his lectures and notes aren't detailed enough. But as long as you do that, his exams are easy, he's a really nice guy, and unless you are a slow reader, it's hard to fall behind.

I taught myself everything! He is not clear in class and goes through infomation fast. We covered WWI to the present for just one exam. He cancels class often but doesn't send out emails until after everyone comes to class and reads the sign on the door, "NO CLASS TODAY" (this happened at least 6 times).

Not an easy class by any means. The Test are multiple choice, mataching, and essay... all in one! The books you have to read are, luckly, very interesting. The movies you watch in class are also great. He will read drafts of book reports. VERY HELPFUL, with email and in person. Misses class a lot, bad office hours, but like I said good Email
