Comment:

Funny and charming guy that genuinely cares about his students. He's a bit more unorganized than the other professors I've had, but he really knows his stuff. Look up his stand-up bit on YouTube to get a sense of his personality. If you read the chapters and follow directions for the journal assignment, you'll be just fine.

Often cancels office hours, if you're struggling... oh well? Doesn't realize that not everyone in the class is in this major. Lectures most of the 3 hour class and assigns projects and papers that are confusing for non-media majors. Very unorganized and doesn't update blackboard learn. Smart guy but really isn't the more proactive professor...

John is a great teacher one of the most memorable ill have here at Chico. He tries to keep the class awake by stand up comedy and his impressions. As long as you read the chapters the test and quizzes will be a piece of cake. He's not trying to trick you in any means & is very helpful if you ask. If you participate the more fun you'll have!

John is a very genuine and caring professor who is always looking out for his students' well-being. He is positive, energetic and definitely a morning person when it comes to scheduling. His classes are interesting and engaging for students, he has a tendency of going off on tangents sometimes but they are always fun to listen to.

John is a really funny guy but can be serious and get well in depth when it comes to lectures. To get a good grade you need to make sure you've read the upcoming chapter and are prepared for a small quiz to follow. There aren't many tests and there is a long journal due at the end, which will determine most of your grade.

He is really entertaining and super cool. Don't sleep in his class or he'll call you out. Always read or you'll fail the quizzes.. Gives free points with super easy quizzes sometimes. There's only 3 tests and then a Journal due at the end of the semester.

Does not respond to emails, what he says in class is different than definitions you find online or in other books, lots of wasted class time. I went to every class and never left happy. He has a lot of energy so you can deal with the class, but I did not enjoy it at all.

John is quite the guy, very entertaining. I had his 3 hour CDES 141 class and honestly I hated it. The class certainly could've been a 50min class, the other two hours were just wasted time. You do learn a few things in his class so if you can deal with the duration and interested in the subject matter you'll like it. Good energy in lectures.

(1) One day, we had a discussion illustrating the students qualms with modern society from their own perspectives. It was enlightening and rich in thoughtfulness. John then proceeded to hijack the conversation with his giant ego and continued to lecture, forgetting about the rich dialogue altogether. He is not an educator by any means.

Such a funny guy. He makes his lectures so interactive and high energy. He seems to be very respected around campus, defiantly knows what he's talking about. Kinda vague on assignments, but at the same time a very easy grader so don't worry about it.

I had him for two classes my third semester here. In both classes he was clear on the subject matter and is very fun and animated during his lectures. He's easy to talk to and very passionate about his students. His class was pretty easy, but I learned a good amount. He's just all around a great guy to know.

John is an excellent professor, any comments to the contrary are coming from irresponsible and lazy students who would rather text or Snapchat than learn. John gives excellent lectures that are relevant, his anecdotes paint a fuller picture and he bends over backwards to help his students pass. Use his office hours, show up and pay attention!

He only goes over powerpoints, often gets distracted which leads to never doing anything in class & once it is time to take the test nobody will have any idea what to study. I went to class, but my tip to you is to just go on Thursdays. He never actually gives you the test its normally to just draw a picture, I didn't learn! Changing my major! tnx

I love John and he's probably my favorite professor on campus. He's extremely chill and funny as long as students are respectful. If you go to class and pay attention, it's not that difficult to succeed. Be sure to make use of his office hours, he'll clarify anything you don't understand and it really helps when preparing for assignments or exams.

I absolutely love John! By far one of the best profs I've had. So funky and always happy. He is very interesting to listen to and is easy going. However, there are lots of quizzes based off the reading. And the tests can be hard if you don't stay on top of reading and notes. Easy grader

I absolutely love this teacher, by far one of the best I've had at Chico State! Obviously very passionate about teaching and loves his students. Makes the topics very interesting and does his absolute best to engage his students. Very friendly and makes content easy to understand. This class should be required! He goes off on tangents a lot.

Outstanding professor who loves and is loved by his students. He never comes in with a sour mood and always does his best to entertain students. His notes are more key words on power points than actual notes, so make sure you listen to his definitions and write them down as his lecture is very detailed. Truly an honor to be a part of his class.

John is a great professor hints why he has won teacher of the year. His classes are fun and you can learn a lot from him. As long as you pay attention and show him respect you will get a good grade and a good experience from the class.
