SYO4102. This guy's class was a waste of my time... he almost ruined my interest as a sociology major. As a class based solely on five papers, nothing you/your group could come up with was right.

He is a terrible teacher. His EXTENSIVE RESEARCH papers are useless b/c whatever you come up with he argues how it is completely wrong, even when i took many ideas from HIS LECTURE. if he gives one. DO NOT TAKE!!!!

It all depends on who your TA is for this class. I barely pulled off a B after doing ridiculous work when all of my friends got As for doing nothing. I hear the syllabus has now changed to 5 group papers and no tests, so you don't have that to cushion your grade.

Grades are determined by group papers and nonesense research that had all been geared toward his superliberal views and literature that he has either written or previously researched. I ended up dropping and working in an independant study course for the credit, and education, that I should have gotten from Scanzoni!

UGH! If I had to pick Scanzoni out of a line up I simply could not do it. I saw him the first day of class and thats it! Remember the busy work you did in middle school when you have a substitute teacher? That's what this class is about! Groups papers on nearly impossible topics and online exams so sporadic they are very easy to forget! Avoid!

AWFUL! Yes, it was easy to do the online tests (2/week), but they weren't on scheduled days, like every Monday and Thursday, say, so it's very easy to forget them. The group papers are a drag, but it beats going to class 3 hrs a week. It took a long time to do the research. Scanzoni, who is he again? Oh yeah, the professor that NEVER taught.

Pretty easy A. He changed it around this so you still write 6 group papers but there are parts A,B,and C. You get to label if your partner does any work or not so you aren't penalized! No paper has taken me more than 30 min. 18 EASY online exams, just open the online text and copy and paste the questions, I've got 100% on all! Never go to class!

Scanzoni does not teach. The intern (not TA) will grade ur work. It depends on ur intern. He doesnt lecture, u dont have to go to class but u end up writing 5 papers with ppl u dont know and their work impacts ur grade. The interns are very subjective and you can easily get a bad grade. Dont take the class.

You will learn so much in this class about historic and contemporary gender and family issues! I loved it! However, you do not work individually, but in groups. If a group member does not work at an adequate level, the Prof will take care of it. If you want to drop a member, you can. This class is not an easy A you will have to do indepth research.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you get put with a group that does nothing, YOU get penalized. The penalty for a group member not contributing can be a zero for everyone. Even worse, it is not made clear that this happens. Be warned...take this class only if you want to risk having to write 10+ page papers by yourself. And if the TA doesn't like it, F.

Terrible class!! He does not do a thing. No lectures. There are tests solely based on the book. The TA's are horrible. They can be far less qualified/intelligent but they alone grade your paper. If you do not write what they want, you WILL fail. I can't believe this man is getting paid to teach this class when he does absolutely nothing!!!

he's such a sweet old man. he explains anything if you ask him, he's willing to change your grades if you think something is not fair, and there are no quizzes or tests The TA's grade the papers, and you can turn in as many rough drafts and get them graded as you want. Just keep making corrections until you get it right. It's an easy A

All I can say is wow. This is one of the greatest, most helpful teachers a student can get. I TAed for his Marriage and Family Class as well as worked on an Independent Study with him. He will work with you until you get it right. I would reccomend him for any class! Work must be done though!
