I love Sharp! He is the best chemistry prof at UVM! If you apply yourself and get help in office hours, you will be ok. Tests are hard but if you think something was graded unfairly, he will give you points back if you go over it with him. One of the most unforgettable professors I had. Highly recommend. Lets you replace final w lowest test score

Sharp as a human is a gem, he will learn your name if you show up to lecture, and he gives back tests himself. If you go to office hours, he will try to teach you whatever you don't understand. That said, he tests are extremely math based, and conceptually limited. In addition, he is unclear during lecture, so you will be teaching yourself a lot.

Overall, just an amazing guy. All of his students adore him, and he is so passionate about seeing them do well and get the material. The most helpful professor I've had. I'm happy he's retiring because I know how happy he will be, but very sad to see such an amazing teacher go. I feel sorry for everyone who won't get to be in his class. I loved it!

Sharp is the best professor I have ever had. He is so helpful in office hours and holds plenty of them (and more before a test). He is also the sweetest person ever. Anyone who gives Sharp a low score it is only because they dont like chemistry and had to take it as a requirement

John Sharp is an absolute sweetheart. You couldn't ask for a better personality. He breaks up lectures with lame jokes, and he tries to memorize all two hundred names in his lecture by the end of the semester. The tests are reasonable for chemistry, and he has office hours constantly. He will provide any of the help you need.

Prof. Sharp is an AMAZING chem teacher. He's got this bubbly attitude every class that makes it very hard to not laugh at what he says, regardless if it was funny. He's very well liked and respect by his students. He teaches chem so the class is already tough, but he definitely makes the lectures enjoyable for an at-times boring topic like chem.

Not helpful. After struggling on tests asked him for help and all he told me was to drop science as a major in general. Also told me to study more math than reading. The next test had over 50% multiple choice questions relating to concepts.

Professor Sharp is an amazingly sweet professor. If you go to his office hours, he will stop what he is doing to answer your question. His lectures, however, are not that good. He kind if jumps all over the place. Study for the tests!! But all-in-all a great professor

Sharp is super friendly, a brilliant prof who's been teaching for a long time. Exams were tough and required careful practice of old exams (he posts 3 old ones before each test). You MUST do readings and lots of practice problems to get an A. Going to lect. without covering material beforehand is confusing. Sharp keeps lots of office hours to help.

Sharp is the man, as a person there is no one better. However he always lectured on concepts but then gives exams on mathematical critical thinking problems and the questions always involve way more thinking than necessary. Overall, still had a good time in his class but be prepared to work hard and self teach yourself quite a bit.

Sharp is probably one of the nicest professors I have met at UVM. He always makes an effort to know everyone's name and is available more often than any of my other professors. Tests can be hard, but he gives out lots of partial credit.

Professor Sharp is so nice and genuinely cares about his students. He works hard to make the dreaded intro to chem class not so bad. If you do the work he assigns and pay attention in class (actually show up with a coffee), things are pretty straightforward by the time the tests come around. Definitely reminds me of a grandfather figure. :)

I can`t say that I enjoyed Chem, a 200 person lecture isn`t really my thing, but John was great! Not an easy A, but go to office hours, do the practice tests and you`ll do fine and actually learn something.Take the practice tests and then go and ask him about the problems you didnt understand. I still go by his office to chat, such a nice guy!
