As long as you take good notes and don't mind rote memorization, this was an excellent class with an excellent professor. I learned more than I've learned in any other course, and, most importantly, I learned to study and handle more difficult courseloads without being overwhelmed. Would recommend.

Not an easy A, you have to be willing to show up to class, read and take notes. You also need to study. Not a bad professor AT ALL, even though It was a semi difficult class for me I would take him again. Some of the books were difficult reads. Tests over lectures were the hardest part.

Dr. Sherman is obviously very intelligent and you can learn a lot in his class, but he is also very condescending. He doesn't like questions in class and he grades on a tough scale. That being said, if you really work hard, he notices.

I respect Sherman for his boldness because he holds his students to the same standards he held his students when he first started teaching. That said, he doesn't use Power Point and minimum I have 3 pages of notes at the end of lecture. He definitely patronizes when someone asks a question, making it hard to approach him.

I took this class because other students said how great Dr. Sherman was. While I agree that he is knowledgeable, he is very rude. He doesn't like questions and will make you feel stupid for asking them. You will learn things but it's tough to respect him and enjoy class where he is so blatantly patronizing and disrespectful. 2/10 never take again

He makes the class sound very tough in the beginning but in reality it's not bad at all. We took 6 reading comprehension quizzes, which were the hardest part of the class. He emphasizes repeatedly that if you show up to class, take good notes, and study you will do fine. Tests are not hard if you do this. He does not curve or give extra credit.

Very knowledgeable and passionate when teaching this class, but did not provide a textbook on the material so it was hard to follow. He required us to read two novels. Readings were tough. If you want to pass you should take notes on everything he says and attend class. Although if you attend class that still does not guarantee a passing grade.

Tough class, but a great class. Don't take the class if you're not good at taking notes or if you don't write fast. It's all lecture with no "easy days." Every single thing, no matter how unimportant you think it is, will be on the test. And if you fail one test, it's gonna be tough to bring the grade up. Tough professor, but he's knowledgeable.

Dr Sherman is an excellent professor. Highly recommend him to students who ATTEND class. If you do not attend, you will not pass. Take good notes and you will get an A. He is extremely knowledgeable on Latin America and I found his stories interesting. Other people took them as arrogance, all about perspective! His experience in L.A. helps a lot.

Dr. Sherman is a truly amazing professor! On the first day, he makes his class sound as though it's going to be horrible, but in reality, it's quite easy! As long as you attend every class and take extremely thorough notes, there's really no way to do badly in this class. He is extremely organized in everything he does, so doing well is not hard!

Dr. Sherman is what more professors should aim to be. If you come to class, pay attention, take notes, and study you'll pass with flying colors. If you choose not to then you'll fail. You have to earn your grade which makes getting an A that much more satisfying.

Sherman actually was not a bad teacher. If you're willing to come to class, pay attention, and study the notes you take then you'll do fine. If you're not willing to work that hard you'll fail. I show up to class every day and take notes, but I hardly study and I'm looking at a B. Not too bad of a class.

He is one of the hardest teachers you will ever have. First day of class he came in telling us that he was the ogra of the history department, thee hardest grader. He also gives no curves or extra credit. Every class is pretty much mandatory because you take notes the whole class and there is no textbook for use. Don't take him, you will regret it.

Sherman is the hardest teacher I've ever had at Wright State. He lectures the whole time and you have to write down every word he says. His tests are really hard and detail oriented. If you want a challenge take this class but if you are looking for an easy A go somewhere else.
