Many students are intimidated by him but he's really funny and nice if you get to know him. If you go to him before an essay is due he will help tell you exactly what to write about.

He is a very nice man, but he is not a good teacher. He does not lecture well. He warns the class of this but still is no better. He does not accommodate for shyness. He demands participation even if it makes you have a panic attack.When I asked for help I was just as lost as beforehand. Very difficult to do well in his class. He gives out few A's.

Dr. Arms is a really great teacher who really cares about his students. Alot of people say that he's hard but if you do you homework and pay attention in class, the course really isn't difficult at all. If you talk to him outside of class he is very willing to help you improve. He is definitely one of the best teachers I have had at Hendrix.

Literally my favorite professor ever! It's a difficult class so only take it if you actually want to learn spanish. He is super nice and loves to talk and he has a pretty fantastic mustache. I will definitely be taking more classes with him.

If you learn to regurgitate every idea he has then you're guaranteed an A despite having only ok grammar. Don't think for yourself, anything outside of the canonical interpretation of work will be met with unrelenting incredulity. I wasn't impressed or stimulated mentally at all.

Comment:

He's interesting, old, engages his students and makes sure that everyone is working their hardest. His class is difficult. If you're not studying every night of the week at least a little bit, you're not doing enough. But being in his class makes you learn the language and learn it well. He was my hardest and favorite professor.

He tells a lot of stories in class and is very interesting to listen to. Sometimes he can come of as slightly condescending, but I don't think he means to be that way. He is extremely helpful if you ask him, and very understanding. The class is challenging and the tests kill, but Jon Arms is a fantastic teacher.
