I took Huhtala for ISYS 216 and 316 (Java programming). He is a great professor and explains the information quite well. His daily assignments aren't too difficult and the projects aren't even that bad; not even the Major project at the end of ISYS 316. He definately knows his Java and is always willing to help.Come to class and do assignments then

Don't take him if you're not a CIS student. He makes you think hard, and study even harder. 316 goes a bit easier than 216, but you will not pass the class with no effort. He doesn't like stupid questions, and usually gets very harsh with people who ask them. Otherwise he's a great teacher for those who want to learn, I loved every class!

Okay let’s face it, Hutala is the only prof that can code at Ferris â€" he’s the big fish of that little FSU java pond and I liked him. You ask questions, he answers. He always WANTS to help you but students feel intimidated by him because he’s slow to warm up w/ a dry sense of humor. Study for TESTS!

Huhtala knows JAVA well enough, but teaches the intro class as though it's your major. I'm a geek, and he even left me behind with his teaching style. Rather than a ground-up approach he just expects you to take off running. Only take this class if you have to, and study up at home.

For some reason, he thinks that EVERY preson in his class wants to become a SCJP (NOT TRUE) and writes his tests in an INTRO class for that purpose. Java sucks Huhtala, get over it and stop worshiping it like a woman you will never have.

So very very hard. I am not a programmer, and had to take this for my major (they no longer require this class for it). I managed to get a C+ after visiting his office multiple times for help on the final project. He is a good teacher, but hard.

Basicly runs his class as a self-learning lab. You complete tutorials form the book at your own pace. If you make an honest effort to meet the suggested schedule he will help you. If you blow off until semester end, don't look for a lot of help.

he’s another reason the entire CIS dept should be fired & start over w/ REAL PROFESSORS-17 total teachers & only 1 w/ PhD â€" this guy earned upto a Bachelors & it shows!! he’s unhelpful, lousy @ explaining code, unstructured-youll teach yourself

Huhtala knows java, but he lives by it. Its one of the hardest languages, he cant teach at all. I would ask him something, and he would just tell me to keep grinding it out. He needs to get better people skills

The class is really not that hard, its just that half the people in the CIS program are retarded and don't know how to use computers. Very clear on his expectations and is one of the most intelligent CIS teachers.
