Dr. Saari has had a huge impact on my life--I lived, worked, and traveled in Asia for years and now teach Asian/world history in the U.S. His approach is unconventional and demands more on the park of the student...lecture notes?! No spoon-feeding in his classes! Gotta use your brain now and then (I know that may be asking a lot).

I wasn't intersted in history at all on the first day. However, I found the class extremely interesting, and the professor's level of personal connections to the subject helped greatly.

He knows his stuff, but just too unorganized of a format. Very hard to follow and makes it not fun at all. Avoid this class

He really knows his stuff and has led a very interesting life, but isn't very good at lecturing. It would help a lot if he typed his notes for the overhead and if he would stay on one topic rather than being so scattered.

Absolutely HATED his class. I was excited to take the class, but because of how unclear he was I became easily confused. His notes are IMPOSSIBLE to read, and somewhere in his talking there is an explination, although where I cannot tell you. YUCK!

One of the best teachers NMU has. all around good guy and teacher. He's only here for a couple more years so take him if you can. Over the class i've watched him turn people who disliked everything about china, into people who wanted to learn more.

History in the Third World is a great class to take with him. He gives you a good challenge, but he meets you half way for it.
