Kent is a great professor, he is versed and very experienced in archaeology. The material at some points can be very dry but he is clear on what he wants done and what is going to be on the exams. If you pay attention, do the 3 assignments he assigns and study for the 3 exams you will definitely pass.

Taking archaeology with Jon is one of the best experiences I've had at Metro. The class is not easy, but very rewarding. Attend lectures and read the book, as exams cover both. Most notably though, Jon is truly passionate about his work and helping his students succeed. The world needs more professors like him.

I'm not really a fan of archaeology but I still learned a lot from Dr. Kent. I really appreciated the amount of extra credit he provided - it's really helpful if you happen to get behind on something!

Dr. Kent is a great professor, one of the friendliest people I've met this year, charming and quirky. There are a lot of slides in this class and I'd prefer more lab time but he does a good job teaching. He definitely loves his field and invests himself in his work.

One of the best teachers, and people in general, I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. He's truly a genius when it comes to anthropology, and made me passionate enough about it to declare it as my minor. So grateful for the knowledge gained in this class, and for the honor of working with him.

Dr. Kent is a master of his trade, and he will enlighten you if you do not accept evolutionary theory; if you do accept it, he will enrich your understanding of it. Know, though, that his study guides make his exams seem impossible, but they're reasonable if you read the book thoroughly. I strongly recommend taking college biology before his class.

This was by far the hardest course I've ever had. Professor Kent made it interesting and I learned a lot during the semester. There were only three tests,m each one covering a lot of information, the entire semester and no other grades. His lectures are great and he'll even demonstrate how the chimps walk! He was a great instructor!

Jon is a great, down to earth, and passionate guy. As an adviser he is always willing to go the extra mile and I would consider him a good friend on top of being a great professor. He is a big part of why I am now working on my PhD in archaeology and I will forever be grateful to all the mentoring he has given over the years.

Jon is an awesome teacher and passionate about his field. He is fair, helpful, and just a friendly person. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would recommend not skipping a lecture, as even the videos show up on the exams. The exams cover lectures, slides, and the required books (2) but are very straight forward. He does offer extra credit.

Attended class regularly, at first, and received okay grades. He grades harsher than you would expect. I stopped going because he would repeat the text with additional stories about Peru. I really don't care about your personal trips, thanks. Fieldtrip is worth 20/320 points, so attend that. Otherwise, grade depends solely on 3, 100 point tests.

It didnt matter how hard I worked, how often I met him in office hours or much I read the book I could never grasp the material. I don't recommend taking Archaeology unless your good at forensics, ecology, basically all science. Loving history isnt enough.Really really nice guy but hard class

I majored in Anthropology and had Jon for several classes and field schools. He is a top notch professor. I learned a lot from him about critical thinking and attention to detail. He expects a lot from his students. You could go to numerous universities and not find a more dedicated, knowledgeable, and inspirational instructor.
