I really wish I wouldn't have bought into all the negative hype about Dr. Harry. The truth is he's a really sweet guy that has a tough job. He just wants you to write well and it makes sense for communications majors. He's also very funny. If you don't understand dry humor, that's your problem.

People always get nervous to take Dr. Harry after reading these rates. Maybe it is because I have a lot of respect for him because I am a journalism major, but he is one of my favorite professors. He grades tough to prepare us for the real world. He calls students out when they are being disrespectful, he's not a jerk. He tries to be funny as well.

Dr. Harry is a great professor. Anyone complaining about him likely only got on his bad side by doing things they shouldn't be doing in a classroom anyways, like being on their phone or computer when he's teaching. Very challenging class but you will learn a lot. Very sophisticated sense of humor. If you're witty you will appreciate it.

Dr. Harry is unprofessional, often starting class with a drinking story from his "glory days." His grading is inconsistent and unclear. He allows you to pick your speech topics and then criticizes them heavily and demands that it be changed to something "more interesting." I'm embarrassed that he represents the university that I love so dearly.

His grading system is questionable at best, he provides no critical feedback, makes fun of students in class, and is honestly kind of rude. Not a fan, and if I wasn't studying journalism, I would choose to never take another class taught by him.

Like someone else mentioned, Harry makes you write an article/lede in a short amount time and expects it to be quality work. Ran out of time? No worries, you'll get graded on your unfinished work (spoiler alert: it'll be graded badly). The grading criteria so weird and I have no clue what my grade is. He doesn't post grades. I hate this class.

Mr. Harris is a very difficult teacher. His assignments are due in class and he gives very little time to complete them. He acts like we are already newspaper editors. He has a lot of knowledge but he doesn't really know how to disperse it. He gives out surprise quizzes and tries to tell lame jokes. He is a tough grader. He doesn't post grades up.

Dr. Harry's class is not for those who slack off, but if you come to class you'll do fine! He explains everything really well and you have no homework outside of class. You do have to buy the book because you will use it everyday in class but his sense of humor is fab. Great class overall.

The class was was not difficult but he is a horrible grader. The criteria for grading is not given before you write an article but he states what he is looking for after he gives it back. He writes what you do wrong on what grades but does not give any helpful feedback. Also, you have no idea how you're doing in the class the whole semester.

Anyone who complains about Dr. Harry doesn't get it. Yes, learning to write well is hard. His job is to teach us. And frankly, being in communications requires us to know how to write well. He doesn't have an easy job. Imagine reading bad writing ALL THE TIME. I'd go crazy, too. Give him a break. He's a GREAT professor and funny, too.

I struggled in his classes - they were ones I dreaded going to every day. He's a tough grader which has the potential to make you a better writer but he doesn't give feedback to help you improve. If you ask, he still doesn't help. His grading scale is also weird.

do NOT take him for public speaking. He took the outlines for one of the classes speeches and stood in the front of the room making fun of what people did wrong in their outline. Saying things like "what where you smoking" HE IS SO RUDE and he used the persons topic when making fun of them so people could be able to know whose speech.

He starts out the class lighthearted and easy going, making jokes here and there but don't be fooled by his small attempt at being charming. You only do assignments during class but the last thing I wanted was to be around him. It's insanely hard to do well (and I'm a writer), he loves to correct but doesn't help your writing evolve. He is AWFUL.

Dr. Harry gets so much criticism, but he's really a great professor. Yes, his classes are difficult, but you'll become a better journalist. He is a strict grader, but his criteria is clear. You lose a ton of points for fact-errors, but you shouldn't make fact-errors as a journalist in the real world so it makes sense.

I hated this class. Public speaking is awful already and he makes the class do an impromptu speech where you stand up and he asks you a question and you have to do a speech right there on the spot. Also if you don't pick a side on the topic you automatically fail because "everyone has a side". Take someone else!!

Dr. Harry is one of the worst professors I've had at Slippery Rock. His grading system is ridiculous and his jokes are terrible. He tears apart your work and does not give you any helpful feedback. It's impossible to get an A even with visiting his office hours. Avoid him at all costs.

Dr. Harry is one of my favorite professors at SRU! He may be a tad strict on fact errors, but you can't have false information as a journalist in the real world! He rewards perfect attendance and tells some very funny jokes! Overall, the class is very laidback and I enjoyed it a lot :)

CHECK FACTS! Dr. Harry is strict about fact-errors and takes no prisoner when it comes to grading. Very helpful professor but also somewhat strict. Go over notes because he usually has a quiz in the beginning of class.

Loved this class. He admits to be a little more strict in his other classes, explaining the other posts, but I really enjoyed his public speaking class. told jokes to begin class and always said hello to everyone. nice guy and a good teacher
