I was in his Islamic terror class. Tons of reading. Reading quiz every class. He was nice. If you had background info on the subject he liked you even more. Don't write the papers the morning they are due. If you start them 2 days before its more than manageable. The final paper and speech are easy too. He really does prepare you well. Stay focused

Tough teacher, intimidating at first and expects a lot out of you but he wants you to succeed and if you actually put in the effort, then you will. Essays due Tuesdays and short reading quizzes due Thursdays. Your writing *will* improve.

Jockel is a one of a kind professor that's for sure. He is very smart and a great teacher who expects alot and you will learn a ton. Be prepared to work your butt off because you will have essays and quizzes every week with a lot of reading. If you do the work and pay attention you will get an A. If you don't, well, your screwed Best sweater award.

If theres one thing Jockel is, it's clear. The guy is strictly business... he doesn't care about you on a personal level, but is an excellent teacher and will provide help if asked. Very knowledgeable and helpful in improving writing skills. Sweater game: impeccable.

Offers little to no emotional support- which you will need if you take one of his courses. Assigns lots of reading, wears cute sweaters, and enjoys creating controversy. Learned a lot and cried a lot but overall was a decent class. P.S. he's a really cute/adorable old man (that should be reason enough to take this class).

An animated guy with a sense of humor. Work load was just right for a 100-level course, and if you're a competent writer and show up and participate, there's no reason not to get at least a 3.5. He does not ask for a whole lot, so he will give you heat in front of the whole class if you don't deliver.

Jockel is my adviser and I have taken 3 classes with him. He taught me to write at a college level and believes in grading based on improvement. However, if you are not giving him 100% of your effort and attention, you will not get any of his. Don't make stupid comments and don't lie about reading the bookswatching the films he assigns. He knows.

The worst experience I have had here at St. Lawrence by far. One of the meanest, rudest, and unaccommodating professors and people I have ever come across. I would highly recommend reconsidering taking a class with him.

Jockel is an excellent professor. He can be tough, but he does it so you grow as a writer and student, which if you listen to him and follow his rules, you will improve a lot. He is a super smart man who knows what he is talking about and although he can seem a little intimidating, he is very approachable and nice to talk to.

Jockel is a great guy and great professor. It takes some time to get used to him, and he might rub you the wrong way at first, but he is wicked smart and a great teacher. He expects a lot but he is very passionate about his classes and students making working hard that much more worth it. Take his class.

Students that don't try hard will not do well. His classes can take a lot of work but effort is rewarded. Taking a class with Jockel is fantastic because he is both incredibly intelligent and a great professor. Anyone looking for a worthwhile (but not easy) course should try to take a class with him.
