Comment:
The only grades were tests and labs. He didn't adequately explain what he wanted on the first test (leading to an average of 50%), but specifically said "This isn't my fault." His lectures were disorganized and unhelpful. Canvas looked like a derailed train crashed into a dumpster fire. He got very little respect. The textbook was free, though.

Dont take this class if you arent good with physics or cant teach yourself well. He gives no homework which isnt a good thing and his lectures arent helpful. He talks through problems in class rather than working them out which is confusing. Tests are a little tricky. Had to read the book a lot and find outside problems to work and barely got an A.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I came in with no physics background and left more confused than ever. No helpful class instruction and was very rude when I tried to talk to him outside of class. He also has no idea how to use canvas grading. Unless you have a STRONG physics background or just a glutton for punishment, I do not recommend.

Very scatter brained teacher. He does not give homework and only has 3 test grades, a final, and a lab grade. Very tough grader and is picky about what he likes to see. Only watched him workout a few problems during the whole semester, other than that he worked everything on this confusing problem. You pretty much has to teach yourself. Stay away

His grading is godawful to understand and he is a poor teacher that should not be teaching physics. I came into the class like most others not knowing anything about physics period. I can still say that I know just as much from when I first started the class. I hope you have a friend that can help tutor you if you get this class.

I came into this class not knowing an ounce of physics, and I'm leaving knowing less than I did when I came in. He's a good guy but should not be teaching Physics. I truly believe he knows what he's talking about in class but doesn't understand that WE DON'T. If you can understand Mathematica then this class is for you. If not, AVOID.

Comment:
If you come into this course with no physics background, you will not pass. His lectures are difficult to follow, and he grades his tests rather harshly. He has a generous scale, but unless you have a very strong understanding of physics coming in, dont take this class. If you do, this is an easy class you can just show up for the test and pass.

Comment:
Dr. Perez is by far the worst professor I've ever had. His lectures are hot garbage, he reads directly from the notes he puts online, and the notes suck. The average on our first exam was a 10.8/20, and he said, "That's not my fault." Well when the average is an F in a class of 228 people, it's probably your fault pal. Avoid him like the plague.

Anyone who wouldn't have enjoyed Modern Physics lectured by Dr. Perez needs to reconsider being a physicist. Very lucid demonstrations that cleared up where the text may have lacked. Do extra homework, use office hours often, and you shouldn't have any problem. The class is designed to introduce and prepare physics students for further phys classes

Perez is a nice guy, and he'll do what he can to help you, but he's so focused on research he finds it difficult to bring his material down to a level people who have never seen quantum physics before can understand. Grades leniently but tests are hard. No office hours, just hope that he's in his office when you need help or schedule an appointment

I did not learn much in this class, but I made an A+ because his tests were very similar as the previous semester's test so I studied/ memorized those. His lectures are hard to keep interest in and are pretty confusing. He is a nice man that would be willing to help you however.

Terrible teacher. Making a B is manageable. The homework is online, but pertains nothing to the test at all. Print out the power points and bring them to class because they have all his clicker questions with the answers. Study concepts and power point to pass tests, and ask him about what type of free response questions will be on the test.

Perez is extremely smart, but he is focused on research... he is NOT good at teaching. His class was pretty difficult to sit through. 20 minutes of rambling to hit one key point Never really describes anything all the way through or finishes examples. The tests are TOUGH, but he uses labs and HW into your final grade. Do not recommend.

If he is the only professor teaching Physics 1000....well good luck. Class average was failing on every test. Doesn't work any "physics" problems in class. He rambles about topics in class that really aren't on the test. You basically have to teach yourself from homework. Stay far, far away if you have the chance. Wish I had that chance.

Read the book, answer ALL the multiple choice questions, go to class and lab, and do your homework. If you do poorly on all the above you're at a high C. Give it some effort and you got yourself a B. Don't get too hung up on wanting him to plug in numbers, its not going to happen. Wish i could have had him again for physics two!

Hes a very nice man and he loves Physics. However, he never plugged numbers into his examples (he preferred variables) and would often not finish examples at all. When students asked questions, he would 50% of the time not really answer the question at all and unless you had a keen understanding of the subject matter his tests proved impossible.
