Dr. Redding is a really nice guy and a great professor if you put in the effort to take good notes. I used self-made flash cards to study for exams and it worked pretty well.

Got an A. Here's what worked for me: I read each chapter 3-5 times (the more the better) by the 2nd time you should start to understand things more, made flashcards out of his powerpoint slides (this was a big help) & went through the book making detailed flashcards of the diseases that were in the powerpoint and memorized those flashcards.

Match up his lectures and the book and read read read. His tests need 20+ hours of studying before a test no lie. Start studying 2 weeks before. I always reviewed my tests with him in office hours after we got them back. Overall, hardest thing I've ever done and I pulled out an A by one point. Who knows when this man will retire for good.

Seriously one of the hardest classes I have taken. I studied for days and struggled just to get mid 60s on the tests. He teaches like it is an upper division class and you cannot understand much of what he says. But saying that, your grade is VERY dependent on lab. Make 100 in lab and your golden. Pretty sure he is retiring though.

Don't go in expecting to get an A because you're hot stuff. Take lab seriously. If you don't care to work for a grade, he won't care to help you. If you do care about the class, he is extremely smart and will explain anything you need help with. Literally, just have an interest in the subject, try to learn, and a B, even an A, is very possible

This class is really hard, but not impossible. Going to class is pointless. Try to get a 100 in lab, on everything. I made a 74,50,74 on his tests. average is usually about 45-50. in his class an A is an 85. Learn the pp word for word. read each chapter a few times. That's what I did and got an A. I probably studied 40 hours or so for each test.

Dr. Redding does not teach. He tells you facts and makes no effort to explain those facts in a way that can be understood and retained by the average student. This man should not be instructing an undergraduate course.

I'm sure he is a very nice person, teacher wise he is extremely difficult. Redding is very intelligent, however, I really don't understand how he expects the class to obtain his level of knowledge in one semester. I took the same class with Pirkle and scored 20-35 points higher than I did in Redding's class. I now avoid his classes like the plague.

Terrible course. Geared towards pre-medical students ONLY with no consideration for other students who are majoring in other things.

Yes this class is difficult however, if you do well in your lab section you'll pass. I made on average a 75 on tests but a high A in lab and received an A in the class. The hardest part about his tests are knowing if it's just A, just B, just C, A and C, A and B, or All of the Above. If you fail, rethink your major.

This guy is insanely knowledgeable in this subject and I have nothing but respect for him and his level of expertise but as others have said, he should not be teaching a 200 level course. I would recommend taking this class elsewhere if you don't have the previous scientific exposure required to understand his lectures and exams.

My best advice would be to get his "study guide" from a friend, find out which textbook he's using, order it a semester ahead of time and start reading through it as soon as you receive it. If you haven't been waist deep in hardcore science since high school, don't expect to make above a C in this class.

He is a very nice guy and it is obvious that he really knows his stuff. This class is extremely hard. Lab depends on your TA but they are all generally easy-going so it's pretty easy. If you want to make an A in this class, You'll have to start studying in depth weeks before the exam.

There is no reason for this class to be as hard as it is. The people who are saying that it's "right on key" with what they'd expect of a pre-professional course are out of their minds. This class has no prerequisites but is taught with the assumption that students already have very solid backgrounds in science.

It's difficult to hate Dr. Redding because he seems like a great guy but his class is much harder than it needs to be. I took Anatomy I at UTK and I feel like I learned more information from that course despite it being significantly easier. Expecting students to simply memorize the textbook is a terrible teaching strategy.

Dr. Redding is a good teacher, knows his material well, and will challenge you. I am all for this style of professor, but he really does not help out his students. The grading in this class is the most nonsensical style I have ever, and will ever see. Learned a lot, worked hard for a good grade but did not get the grade I deserved.
