I am a senior now, and took Intro to Ethics with him as a freshman, and I am still haunted enough by this man to post this. Worst professor I have ever had. I worked my butt off in this class and if he disagreed with your opinion he'd mark you wrong. Very condescending. Only grade that kept me from making Dean's List that semester. DO NOT TAKE

Honestly, he was such a great guy, good teacher, and a unique person. I enjoyed his class and he treated me very well and with a lot of respect. I had a lot of difficulty due to absences and medical problems, but he helped me tremendously. If you would give him a chance and get excited about the subject, you'll see he is a great teacher.

I feel the need to defend this man. You must be interested in the material in order to have fun. Another requirement is half a brain, preferably human. He is hillarious if you can keep up with his humor and is not afraid to say "you're wrong." I love that in a teacher. I frequently walked with him after class and discussed general philosophy. :-)

Is very familiar with the material, but has a convoluted way of explaining things; Can be unclear at times. Shay was late to class often and late to grade/return tests and assignments yet he is unforgiving of work turned in late. Tests are very hard, but the two essay questions that make up most of the test are given before hand. Look elsewhere.

After taking his exams,I felt suicide might be a good option to end my suffering. The book is written like a psychologist would write. He reads from the book and expects you to write like the author of the book. It is nearly impossible to get higher than a C. Stay the heck away or goodbye GPA!!

Nice guy and cares about his students. Sometimes isn't all that clear, but just ask him to explain things simply. I'm really not sure why people think he's hard. He tells you which questions will be on the exam and gives you the essays in advance. If you do the assigned readings and problems, and then study for the exams, it's very easy.

This guy is extremely well rounded in the material we learned. He will answer your questions until you understand the material. All you have to do is take the initiative to ask questions and he also will give out of class help. He is very fair and challenging at the same time. You will learn a lot in his class. He is the man.
