Comment:
Roth is a very smart person, but not he doesn't know how to get a class excited or even involved in the lectures. He is very boring, and after class I don't feel like I've learned anything. Very easy grader though if you want an easy A and credit in the anthro department. Attendance isn't mandatory.

Roth never gets annoyed when I bug him with my questions. You should read, but if you can't, you'll be fine. The class is low stress and super chill. Writings aren't too long, but you can't procrastinate, he's big on concise writing. A great class with a really kind and encouraging Professor!

Comment:
Prof. Roth is very supportive and, in my experience, a fair grader. He can be confusing with assignments and tends to run behind on the material we're supposed to discuss in class. He relies entirely on student participation to keep the lecture going--really, it is more of an informal discussion class. Very interesting and manageable readings.

One of my favorite Professors at Mount Holyoke! Great sense of humor and always willing to talk to his students about anything. He grades on effort which few professors do.

During one of the most difficult semesters of my college career, Prof Roth was the absolute least understanding professor I took a course with. I completely regret entering his class. The good news is that he convinced me I don't belong at Mount Holyoke.

Prof. Roth's class has a great balance of lecture, class discussion, and media. He's witty, and really engages with students to establish a comfortable atmosphere. Anthro 105 has a very reasonable workload, and he selects interesting readings. Wholeheartedly recommended!

Comment:
Prof Roth brought a lot of interesting and varied subject matter to each class and was vigilant in ensuring that each student contributed to discussion. He would do well to put in place a system for grading late papers so that he does not find the need to be condescending when a student falls behind in class.

Roth reminded me of that awkward friend on a sitcom who's actually pretty funny. For instance, he suggested that Mount Holyoke ought to ban pollen from campus because it's "male." He's not an engaging lecturer so you need to come to class interested, and I was fascinated by what we learned, from the basics to his own ethnography of immigrants.

Professor Roth is the funniest professor at MHC. I always looked forward to going to class because I knew either something he said or did would make me laugh. He is a bit unorganized and often unclear about assignments but you get what you need to from this class.

Horrible grader. the class seems easy, but you are not aware of his expectations. Therfore you do not know what is expected nor what to give him. Unorganized. Bad class. Seems like it would be a great class if the instructor put some life into it!

Comment:
Roth is not as confident as I think a professor should be. He isn't terribly organized, either. When I asked for details about certain assignments, the questions seemed to take him completely off guard. In his favor, though, he is aware that he is not the most thrilling orator, and he encourages discussion. Interesting class, but not challenging.

He is a really nice guy, but he's not very interesting. He really doesn't hold my attention at all. He was very scattered and very unsure of himself. He seemed nervous all the time.
