Comment:

Dr. Kim is one of the few professors in the Communications department that challenges her students to work hard and develop their critical thinking skills. Her class isn't easy, especially in comparison to other classes in the department. But, unlike in other classes, you will actually LEARN something (gasp!)

Comment:

Had Prof. Kim for both 611 and 612. She truly knows what she teaches and has the experience. Readings can be a bit much at times, and some may feel she belittles them in class, but everything she offers is the best constructive feedback/criticism and of immense value. She'll help take what you're interested in and help you succeed. Great prof!

She bases her grades strictly on participation, pop quizzes, and the final. Expects all info from excessive readings to be regurgitated. She does not let you know your standing and offers no assistance when help is needed. Complains that she has no time, and makes any effort outside of a non-enriching lecture seem like a chore.

Dr. Kim can be excessively critical of students in a public way. Most frustratingly, she scolds us for not "speaking up and having discussion" yet anyone who does speak up is invariably "corrected" by her--sometimes harshly. Not a very inspiring figure in the COM dept.

Dr Kim is always grouchy. Assigns unreasonable amt of reading, feedback is unhelpful. Constantly moans about how overworked she is (I think the other positive comments on here were written by her). VERY boring lectures!! Makes snap judgements, plays favorites-ALOT. Hard to understand (bad English). Worst aspect: her mightier-than-thou attitude.

incredible professor. she will make you realize how school can actually prepare you for the real world. those who complain about her on this website have obviously never worked hard at anything a day in their lives, and have been spoiled by a public school system that allows for mental laziness and atrophy.

Sometimes maybe she need to realize there're cultural differences between Korea (where she is from) and the U.S. People here likes to learn while having some kind of fun. She wants students to learn but she treats them like elementary students. She also uses Pop quizes to push attendance, which is a sign of lack of confidence of her own lecture.

Her comments on research proposals and theses nearly always let students know what must change in order to create a successful proposal. She may not appear to make sense if you haven't reviewed the material, and can belabor a single topic. She's overworked, so listen to what she has to say, if she's taking the time to tell you.
