Prof. Beckman is a unique character and has a charming personality. Her exams are pretty difficult, and don't relate well to homework, if you're going to take 301 with her make sure to know how to make journal entries as you'll be doing so on every exam, shes also not super accessible during office hours, as they are always immediately after class

I was the only girl in the class and she mustve said it 50 times throughout the semester- it became really annoying. She takes a long time to grade exams and didnt submit final grades on time either. She showed up late often and exams(75% of grade) were very hard compared to study materials. Just not my teaching style and often rude to students.

Professor Beckman knows what she needs to teach but doesnt do so clearly. She shows up late to class and makes you stay late. Showed up late to our final exam and spent 10 minutes fixing the problems she never corrected within it. Tests are very hard and filled with errors, many students fail. There is a lot of homework and little time to do it.

After feeling lost for a few classes, I realized that we don't learn in the 3 hours that she reads off old slides. Expects 60+ pages of reading per week. She is unorganized and it reflects in each class. Easy to get a good grade though: 3 articles, 2 take home exams, 1 term paper. Very slow grader, semester ended and only had 1 of 4 final grades.

Beckman is an extremely accomplished person outside of the classroom and cares a lot about her students. That being said, Beckman has her hands full, teaching undergrad classes while running the masters program. Tests and assignments had frequent errors, while being very complicated. She has too much on her plate, which becomes apparent in class

Comment:
Accounting theory in general is quite boring, so sometimes the three hour lectures were dry and tough to get through. However, Dr. Beckman is very intelligent and well-researched on accounting topics. There is a mid-term, term paper, final, and class participation (3 WSJ articles). Overall, a fair grader, just slow at providing feedback.

You basically sit in class and see what computer games you can play for three hours. Her class consist of a three hour lecture where she reads directly off a powerpoint. Grade consist of a take home midterm, term paper, presentation, and take home final - however, don't expect to get your grades back on any of it just a final grade for the course.

I am shocked at her reviews. This was probably my favorite class in the entire program. For ONCE, the accounting program required some creative writing (not just FASB regurgitation). She was fair with grading. She gives you honest feedback. Also, her class keeps you up to date with current events in accounting. So important for the real world!

Prof Beckman does an EXCELLENT job of explaining the content not only theoretically but contextually with real world application. I enjoy the case study approach during class but it can be quite demanding. Then again this is a graduate class.Prof is super smart and approachable. I would say this class is a steep learning curve, so stay up to date.

A nice person but possibly the worst professor I've taken. Prepare to read an UNREASONABLE amount of TOUGH material. But my main issue? She doesn't teach. She speaks a whole lot but she doesn't emphasize on what is and what isn't important. If only she was as passionate about teaching as she is about accounting (she loves accounting).

She is really passionate about acct and gets upset if ur not prepared. She wasnt the best at explaining the material but if you go through the slides she posts and read the book you should be fine. She loves WSJ so be prepared to read articles and answer questions about them. There are quizzes that can make or break ur grade so study!!

Nice lady, but very frustrating professor. She spent too much time on Wall Street Journal articles, and not enough on actual accounting. She does scale and offer extra credit, but if she just taught the material in the first place, none of that would be necessary. Avoid if possible.

Worst professor in CBA. Spends so much time going over WSJ articles that she doesnt teach. Does not give notes or instructions, just jumps into problems and expects you to know how to do them. Makes things that she spends thirty seconds on in class worth 10 points on the exam. even matoney was better.

Her method of communicating the difficult concepts is next to ineffective. Luckily this subject is learnable out of the book. She gave a paper, extremely harsh on the grading them.
