Dr. Swan is indeed a tough marker, but she is extremely fair. If you don't work hard, or don't want to work, don't take her class. Simple. If you enjoy being challenged, as I do, her class is excellent. I really enjoyed it, and she is extremely intelligent and helpful. As an English major, she helped me tremendously to improve my writing skills.

Her lectures were very precise and informative. Very pleasant in class, but was a tough marker. She was especially good with short stories. Out of her choice of novels I only like 1/3 though. =(

As a first year student that loved every minute of high school english class, i have to say that her knowledge on what she teaches is outstanding but her ability to keep the interest level elevated is lacking... her choice of readings were very dry and as everyone else has stated (it's true) you CANNOT get an A+ (very hard marks) but overall fair.

Excellent class - the Short Story. Well structured readings and very open minded discussions exploring multiple opinions and ideas. Her love for literature shines in her mind-opening questions about the stories. Really enjoyed comming to this class,hard, but if you come prepared you will do well.
