Dr. Julia Upton changed my life. She is the best professor that I have had at St. John's, and probably the most wise and inspirational educator I have ever had in my life. She is so kind and has a beautiful heart of gold. She has experienced so many things and is a walking success story. Her class is truly wonderful if you put in the effort.

I really liked this class. It made me more aware about the importance of embracing the spirituality in our future students. This course didn't focus on religion, but instead on spirituality. Prof Upton is a bit hard to read. She will go and roast the whole class with a smile on her face. I didn't know how she felt about me the whole semester.

She was a great professor for my theology 2000C. Assignments have their due dates but it you have a solid reason for why you would need extra time, she will grant it. There was one time where I just needed more time bc I had so much work from other classes and she was fine with it. Really a GREAT professor to have in the morning! LOVE her.

way too much work for a DNY class (4 reflections, 1 group project, ASL process is long and lots of work, overall assessment paper, artifacts, message board postings, and e-portfolio). she also doesn't teach, and we watch documentaries all during class time. her grading isn't fair, and I would not recommend her. take a different professor.

the worst. She wanted everybody to become a theo minor so she made the class the same as her senior level intensive writing course. she is the most vague professor i've ever had. There are like 7 large projects and assignments not including ASL to do. AVOID unless you are a theo major.

For a core class that every freshman has to take, it's a ridiculous amount of work. She's very sweet and most of the work is easy, but she takes the class WAY too seriously. An ePortfolio is due, as well as a huge group project, 6 ASL hours, etc. If you don't mind a lot of work, take her. I wouldn't personally recommend her.

A very sweet lady. She gives some readings that you can just skim and get the gist of. She offers extensions as long as you tell her beforehand and sends most of the information via stj email. Fairly easy to get an A as long as you do the work (1-2pg bi-weekly papers) She wants to see your personal opinion/reflection more than anything.

This was the worst class that I have ever taken. She doesn't talk about new york, she talks a lot about adjusting to college and religion. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. Every dny class just watches movies, but she has you do a lot of reflection papers, theres a take home midterm and final, a portfolio with a law case, and a huge group research project

This class was by far the most interesting of my freshman year! Dr. Upton is an amazing intellect and if your look for a challenge take her! She'll take you on the most amazing trips as well! There is a lot of reading but its all worth it and she does alot of correspondence through the message boards so dont lag behind!!!

She is an extremely good professor, but gives a lot of work. You will definitely learn something, though. It's good to be on her good side because she's rather important at the University.

She doesn't like crowds gathering @ the end of class to ask her questions, so try to ask during class. She has smart ass remarks and doesn't want u 2 ask a question when she is passing out papers! 2 much group work and papers!

Workload is a bit much for a core class - community service and field experience? Comes off really nice, but definitly has her favorites in class. Get's b**chy towards the end of the semester

so much busywork. there's no way she can justify all the stuff she gives us. it's too much for something thats a bs course to begin with. mad readings, community service, 2 group projects, refelections on EVERY LITTLE THING you do. avoid at all costs!

Do not take her class if you don't like to read and write. She gives a tremedous amount of work. Its overkill, she doesn't realize it's a 3 credit course! Try to avoid her.
