He as a person is inspirational. He has been through so much and has so many stories to tell. He speaks like six languages so he has read everything is the original and he will complain about the translation. One can distract him easily, just let him wonder off-topic and the class will go by so fast.

I took a few classes with him and loved every moment of them. Even if at times the reading was not my favorite, he had his ways to get me interested.. The way he speaks and makes connections to real life is amanzing. He is a true hero and having him as a teacher was an honor!

Justus is a wonderful professor, and a wonderful person. He seems to know everything, and often goes off topic in class (in a good way; you end up learning so much). A lot of people think mistakenly that he is an easy grader; he is, but only if you are actually a good writer, and are interested in what you read.

The professor had a broad knowledge beyond the curriculum which he brought into class discussions to support and highlight different facets of the subjects. He encouraged oral participation that successfully involved all students.

Don't criticize him for his hard hearing, it's not his age, his eardrums were broken when his jeep ran over a land mine in WWII. He runs with the best of the literary scholars, (and has better stories) and can recite poetry from memory in at least 3 languages. Don't be fooled by this man's age, he could still literarily pwn any 20-year-old.

Justus is an excellent teacher. He gives us interesting readings and can tell you more history than any other teacher at Bard. Clearly, age and wisdom go hand in hand. I wish all of my teachers were more like Justus. What a knowledgeable, humble, fascinating man. He has changed my life.

Justus is a fantastic teacher. He has led an incredible life and knows his stuff. I can't wait to take a lit class with him. He is one of the wisest, smartest people I've ever met. He speaks more languages then I can count on two hands.

Justus Rosenberg is a hero of the French Resistance and a Holocaust survivor who actually escaped from a concentration camp. He also traveled to Cuba in 1960 and met both Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. Ask him about it sometime!

absolutely the worst waste of my time. he actually cannot hear anyone answer his questions, which are usually fill in the blanks of his own thoughts. great readings, but made class-time miserable. probably used to be a great teacher, but should really retire

Justus is great, interesting, and surprisingly not senile. he mentioned noticing who was paying attention and who was not (he knew one girl spent her time in his class on facebook). He also grades you based on your personal merits if he likes you etc. so be nice!

Justus is awesome. At first, I thought the class was long and boring but his tangents and anecdotes and comments about Jewish mothers in every class make it worthwhile. Texts are kind of boring though, although that's sort of the nature of the class.

Just isn't just a teacher of Literature- he teaches you everything in and surrounding the books you read. You learn history, philosophy, love, poetry, in addition to reading some amazing books. Go to all the classes, read all the books, and you will learn so much from this monumental character.

19th cent cont novel is the ideal Lit course for a non-major dreading Lit essays and readings. He's really interesting to converse with, but the course was not my favorite.

The claim he is senile is patently wrong; he is the most astute of all my professors. His command of the subject matter is masterful, and his discussions may SEEM rambling, but pay attention- he does. He times himself with his watch in order to circle the conversation around just in time to end the class- never failing to cover the material fully.

Justus reminds me of a grandfather. He's got the look, affect and anecdotes, too. Class can be slow, but that's because he's big on tangents and can get really carried away. He also likes to ask obvious questions about the text (to see if we've been reading?). Bright personality.
