Comment:
Professor York has got to be the most disorganized professor I have ever had. Her lectures are filled with "uhhh, and ummm" and she jumps from one thought to another without clearly explaining it. She then gets annoyed if we ask questions. Her tests are extremely detailed. You pretty much have to memorize the textbook. DO NOT TAKE HER.

Her lectures are scattered and filled with um's and uhhhh's. Skips from one thought to another and never makes a lot of sense. Her power points on blackboard are confusing and non informational. Takes forever to grade her crazy specific tests. Id rather run around the florida swamps with a steak necklace than take this class again.

Attendance isn't mandatory but she randomly gives out assignments if she notices lots of people missing and they are worth a ton of points. There's 3 exams and a cumulative final. Professor York takes entirely too long to grade the exams & drops maybe 2 questions. Her lectures/blackboard are unorganized & u don't know ur grade. A waste of time

Took her for sci literacy, and she didn't grade the papers for months, so you don't have any idea of what she's looking for. She does explain what the assignments are and the steps to do them, but can be very confusing at times, then makes you feel stupid for asking a question. She wasn't the worst, but I would not take her again.

My POV: Can be a little degrading on a 1-1 one basis. I took it to heart but now i think it stems from her level of intelligence and crazy workload. I think she teaches solely for love of the field, not a 50/50 with "love" for students. Not necessarily a problem, just not norm at SU. Come to learn, inspire yourself and find a mentor elsewhere!

Had her for lab... just awful. We sat in confusion (including her) the entire time. She gave us a rubric AFTER our first lab report, and the night before for the second and third. I no longer love biology, one of the most unfair circumstances I have been in. Just happy its over.

Only had her for lab! Seems like she does not really know what she is doing. Her grading was tough she was very confusing in what she expected and wanted. Relied on lab group and the teacher's assistant

I have had Dr. York for several classes. She is very knowledgeable, having a doctorates degree from an Ivy league university and years of experience in the field of Biology. She is also easily found outside of class. Her exams can be difficult, but fair. Grading criteria is clear. No complaints.

I only had her for lab and she made me hate biology, my favorite subject. Always rude, unclear and sometimes changing expectations. Doesn't even seem like she knows what she's talking about half the time. Worst teacher I've ever had.

Dr. York is a good teacher. She is very clear with regard to test content without telling you flat out what is on them. I had her for genetics lab, microbiology, and molecular genetics.

I received A's and B's throughout my college career, and really could not follow a single lecture that she taught. You basically teach yourself for the quizzes and exams. Do not take her unless you have a VERY good understanding of genetics because you will receive C's throughout the whole semester. Very tough grader.

At first, I was skeptical about taking Molecular Genetics. I had heard some not so great things about Karen York. However, she is actually an amazing person!! The class is pretty easy and she tries to make everyone pass. She is always on your side, & if she seems rude, she's not at all!!! She is super funny!! I'd take this class again if I could!!!

The instructor is the worst I have had in all of my years as a student. York shouldn't be able to teach a class as she is chaotic, unorganized, unclear, and extremely unhelpful. Don't ask a question as she will either answer it wrong or not at all. She teaches off of slides and the assigned questions do not have anything to do with the tests. WORST

WARNING. DON'T TAKE HER. You will struggle in that class. She makes it hard because she is not organized with her notes. And she will take forever to grade stuff back.

Dr. York is tough but fair. If you want to learn the material take her class. Although the material is not easy Dr. York will explain tricky concepts. If you are confused she will help you during her office hours. Show up to classes and take quizzes seriously. Study and you will do fine.

I came into this course VERY excited to learn about genetics, and left with a so-so impression of it. I found the lectures to be pretty dry, and had some discrepancies with the way test questions were worded (making them almost like trick questions). York also seemed to not like me too much, and I'm not sure what I did.

She is very rude and not the least bit understanding. She will hate you or like you and there's nothing you can do to change that. I have never done a think and she still hates me. You never receive anything back in time. She is completely unreasonable. Avoid if you can!
