Gives a lot of suggestions and feedback on the assignments but is boring and too committed to quantitative analysis.

It varies from person to person because I definitely saw some people who were interested but as for myself I could never keep my eyes open. I fell asleep at every single lecture. At first I thought that maybe I was just tired from lack or sleep or something but there were times when I would force myself to nap before taking the class and then tak

Don't take his class if you're expecting sociology. His liberally-opinionated teaching serves for more of an economic brainwash than a social science class. Paper topics are unclear and vague. He's got inferiority issues so he's always right. Warning: Soc students get out while you still can.

You don't expect to learn what you do in this class but I still enjoyed it. Lots of economics and current policy issues. His lectures were so-so but TA Lucas is awesome! Go to him if you need any help with the papers. Seriously.

Very liberal professor. The class had 2 midterm take home essays each worth 30% and a final take-home essay worth 40% of grade. All you have to do is go to office hours and they almost write the paper for you :) Lectures are a waste of time. Go to dis. ez

It takes macro-econ knowledge to undertand and make the most of this class. Although I did not study much, I learned a lot in the process of writing the essays--the last two were not easy. Beitel is knowledgeable, and I enjoyed his approach to the subject

Beitel is just bad. The class has so much potential-relatively little work and an interesting topic (politics for dummies!) But Beitel is disorganized and suffers from diarrhea of the mouth. I don't enjoy lectures. TA Lucas is great, makes up for it.

I think I went to 2.1 lectures and still managed a B. Probably the most boring lectures imaginable. Imagine sitting and talking with your grandma for 2 hour two times a week about ECONOMICS! That's right boys and girls... your GRANDMA!

SOC 3 Spring 2003. Beitel has a chip on his shoulder. He's against President Bush, the administration, and the whole Iraq situation. Social problems class or How-Bush-is-the-bad-guy class? He's a certified *a-hem*, easy A teacher nonetheless.

beitel's explanations of material are a bit confusing, however, soc 3 is the easiest class ever. no exams, just 2 short 3 page papers and a take home final (5-6pp). you dont even need to go to lecture to do well. ta's grade easy; no study time is required

His lectures are very articulate so you have to be very attentive to vocabulary to keep up. Two 3-4pg. midterms and one 6pg. final...all takehomes. If you're not satisfied with the grades on the papers, he might let you rewrite.

Although the class is extremely boring at times, what you end up getting out of it is well worth the wait. This class has shown me how to see the world in a more realistic sense. Not the best class by any means but certainly very informative.

Do not take sociology with Professor Beitel, he is unclear, hard to follow, confusing, and most importantly insanely boring. It was pointless to go to class.

An economic approach to social problems most definitely. Quite a bit of historical events leading to problems (that can get pretty boring) instead of just learning about the social problems. Enthusiastic prof though. Not too picky.
