Very humane, rational, humble teacher. The photo 1 course was the first of several that I took. Better to take on campus, not online, as the lab was there and professor was there to help.

Comment:

Lectures are terrible . For three hours each night she just reads a presentation that she has already posted online. The assignments and requirements are confusing . In addition to a very boring required book, she collects every article she can find on the internet and posts them for your reading with no emphasis on what is really important.

Comment:

She is amazing and her skills are excellent. She knows her stuff very well and clear. Need to do different skill practices for approximately each week but those are not hard and complex. She always replied email very fast so if you have questions and late homework, let her know as soon as possible. Sometimes, she is flexible about it.

Comment:

She is a dedicated professional photographer and is very good at teaching. Kate is always there for you for your questions. She is very kind and gives good feedback. Teaches very helpful stuff during the lectures and gives lots of examples for you to better understand. Definitely recommend her IF YOU LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY. Expect to take LOTS of photos.

Comment:

LOVED taking black and white photography with her. Her assistant Adrienne is super helpful too. They both want more students to take the course and will help you get the materials if needed (they sell film cameras to students for about $50!) They're is a few online quizes, but they're open note and overall pretty easy. Midterm and final is online.

Kate is a very nice women, willing always to help with questions. I thought the reading assignments were a bit over the top, over 150 pages a week, technical material. Her syllabi and structure are disorganized. She does clarify though when brought to her attention. I did learn a lot about light room though. Lectures are flat.

This class was amazing. You learn 2 major things, portfolio building and Lightroom. I went into this class knowing nothing about Lightroom, now I use it as my primary photography program. This class has really changed how I process and manage my photos. Thanks Kate for making Lightroom so easy to use and cramming so much into such a short class.

This class teaches you how to produce a portfolio from start to finish. It also teaches you goal setting, and has you analyze who you are as a photographer. It really teaches you all the photography options in the business. I went in to the class thinking I was a portrait photographer and came out a conservation photographer. Amazing class!

This class really taught me what skills I need to have to be successful business wise in photography. Through real life practice in 2 gallery shows you learn many things including: promoting your work, what you need to do before a show, what you need to do during a show, and most important what you need to do after the show. If you are really passionate about photography, take her course. If its something you want to do just because, don't take it. She requires ALOT of assignments which I think makes the class worth more than a 4 units. However she is a helpful professor and knows her stuff very well.

Completely disorganized. No syllabus until 3rd week - then changed due dates 3 times. Didn't prepare a single lecture. Students all saying, "I'm so confused." Very demanding homework/final project for someone who didn't teach anything. Gave incorrect instructions for in-class projects that required prep before class. Take class from someone else.

Kate is both an accomplished photographer and an excellent instructor. Whether you're already experienced or just picking up a camera for the first time, you will learn from this class. The studio sessions and field trips are fun and informative. Very enjoyable class. Highly recommended!

VERY FUN. I learned so much about traditional photography in just an intro course. Kate took her time in explaining everything tons of times over and over and very cool with being flexible in regards to course work. Definately worth it.

Kate is an amazing teacher. She is extremely helpful, understanding, and fun. It was a bit hard keeping up with the assignments since I was taking so many units. It's a great class for those who like photography, but have never learned the basics. I suggest the online class, because if not it's expensive to print your pictures every week...
