If you keep up with the assigned readings, you'll do well. Definitely an interesting class for anyone going into the medical field. Our discussions were pretty good, but I wish she would have told us HER opinion on things every once in awhile. Fair grading, and gives plenty of chances to improve your grade through response papers.

Mediocre professor prone to projecting her own assumptions on what students know or don't know. Beware!

Dougherty seems okay at first but then you quikly find out that she's sort of weird. The discussions in class were highly insightful I would say but her behavior was distracting ( hard to explain in a little blurb as this).

class was ok and prof was good. can't say i was that interested in the subject, but she made it bearable. was a little too soft on the whiney people in the class though.

had professor dougherty a few semesters ago for ancient; genuinely interested in her students and fairly clear about her expectations. a word to the wise about reading these reviews though-- don't believe engineering students (see example below).

Don't know what's wrong with most of the people who left comments earlier, Dougherty is an awesome professor. Not extremely difficult but not easy and definitely puts time into her class presentations. Think she left though. Not surprising given GW students' attitudes.

i had her a couple of years ago for ancient philosophy. totally banal and unchallenging and uninteresting and unhelpful. she's supposed to be an expert at ancient philosophy but my greek is better than hers, and i've only had it for two years! cliff's notes are better than her notes. a total wast

She was an alright prof. Graded my class pretty difficultly, but it was possible to do well. I liked the choice of books. Discussion was alright, but I expected a little more for an honors. I felt she was more interested in herself than us sometimes.

The class was very basic. She was boring and didn't expect much from her students, which I found to be a let down. Everything on the tests came straight out of class notes. You just needed to memorize things, not learn them.

If you are an engineering major, DO NOT take her class. She will screw you royally if she learns that you are an engineering major.

Do not take any classes with her if you consider yourself to be a serious philosophy major. You'll be sorry. On the other hand, if you're looking to take a high school elective, by all means sign up.

I assume a lot of students connected with her. I was not one of them. I didn't relate to her sense of humor and her class did not seem to be that entertaining.
