Fall 2015 Latin American HIS His lectures are very boring and although he uses power points he doesn't write any info on them! He is also monotone, hard to take notes and stay awake. Assignments: 2 map quizzes (label every country, its capitol, and land features) a midterm, final, and paper. He does love his work and comes prepared to teach.

Gives way too much work for an intro Lib-Ed class. I would absolutely not recommend this class to anybody. Only has 4 grades throughout the entire semester. Requires us to memorize entire map of Latin America, knowing countries, capitals, and all land features. Huge workload for the three textbooks. I would suggest avoiding this class at all costs

Okay, Professor is not a bad guy, he's pretty nice and can even be funny sometimes. The problem is he is NOT a good professor. He gives a mid-term and a final, and then two map tests and there is your grade. He'll lecture on topics and show movies, but when it comes to hw he wants everything from the textbook, lecture and movies redundant. Avoid.

Professor Haynes is a very nice person, but as hard as I worked for my grade, I felt that he did not take my effort into account. Hardest class I've taken for a 100 level course. It was very reading and writing intensive, and took the most time out of my week (both homework and class time) despite the fact that it was not a class for my major.

This was a very intellectually challenging course. In order for you to succeed in the class, you have to take a lot of notes and he's sometimes hard to follow. The grading policy is though: Exams account for 80% percent of your final grade. However, Dr. Haynes is a very intelligent man and is there to help if you ask. I learned a lot in his class!

Dr. Keith Haynes is a brilliant professor. His lectures are very informative and complement the textbooks. His power point presentations are very straight forward and help you get back on track if you are lost. The only reason a lot of students hate him is because he makes them actually work for an A. He is very open to help if you just ask!

Reading all of these reviews made me very sad. Dr. Haynes is a great person who loves he does. Yes, he demands a lot of effort from the students- attentive reading, rigorous research, difficult exams. However, if you give it your all, it is a very rewarding academic experience. Ask questions, he'll answer. Show exceptional effort, grade shows it.

Definitely the worst professor I've ever had. Only allows you to take the extremely hard exams (3 of them) and memorize 85 countries to take 2 tests. He does NOT allow extra credit. None of his lectures are relevant. If there's anyway you can avoid taking one of his classes, do it!

He's a very nice and friendly person, but a very ineffective instructor. All I've done so far is listen to the lectures during which he repeats the same information that has been included in previous lectures. His exams are really hard and he expects you to write extremely long essays with ALL the information in the readings to do well. :(

I would have to say without a doubt that he is the absolute worst professor I have ever had, make that teacher. I was forced to take the same class twice because he would not pass me no matter what I did andn actually told me not to take the final because he would not pass me no matter what. He should have been fired yrs ago, unprofessional

Class is definately challenging, however, if you put the effort in he recognizes it, and your effort will be reflected in your grade. Also, he is very passionate about L.A. and will absolutely help you if you don't understand, all you have to do is ask.

Harsh grader, difficult textbook readings, and horrifically BORING lectures (accompanied by confusing powerpoints that are grazed over with the hard to follow lectures). Exams are hard, and must include virtually EVERYTHING learned. Don't take this class!!!

Many people fail to appreciate Prof Haynes. He is not an outgoing person. If you are confused about somethind and refuse to ask questions, you probably won't do well. He teaches an inherently political topic and the books he teaches are immaculately researched. You will gain a vast understanding of American politics in ways didn't before.

Choose something else! I am less educated for taking it. He assigns texts he either hasn't read himself or simply doesn't understand himself. Ask him what anarchosyndicalism means... he assigned a book with the word on every other page and couldn't define it himself. In short, a hard professor to respect.

RUN! Do not take a class with this man. His tests are impossible (he is a VERY harsh grader and the essay topics are broad -- and he wants you to include EVERYTHING!) and the lectures and readings are confusing at best. He is undoubtedly the worst history professor I have ever had, and I'm a history major.

He's a very intenlligent and nice professor if you put your best effort into the work. That said, your best effort rarely means a good grade and the workload can be exorbatent at times. His ten minute out of class meetings are only a problem if you don't do the readings. Not a fun, or easy class, but one you can get a lot out of if you try.
