Comment:
Great prof. Very clear during lectures, gives A LOT of hints for midterm and final, and was very lenient on marking the group project. Does look for keywords on the midterm and final and M/C are tricky. I studied off his lecture notes and wherever he spent a lot of time explaining was guaranteed to be on the exams. I didn't use the textbook at all.

I actually enjoyed his class. He doesn't post anything online so you must come to class to take notes. He drops major hints for midterms/exam which are really helpful. Textbook not so useful, more on the handbook, but not difficult to get a B+/A if you put in the work. I messed up the midterm but did well on final exam and project.

The textbook won't be useful compared to 521. Study his in-class notes (Recommended to bring a laptop and type FAST) + a few supplementary readings he emphasizes. He also drops hints on certain topics he wants you to study. Midterm was alright although final was harder especially the MC. Get a good group for the project (he marks leniently on them)

For all those people who are whining, this is a 3rd year accounting course. If you can't handle it, you probably shouldn't be in accounting because you won't be able to handle your 4th yr courses. Having said that, Caplan is not the most clearest prof. He tends to ramble on but he is knowledgeable. Tests are pretty obvious so can't complain there

He is indeed a very knowledgeable and effective prof. and people who complain about him should not really go for CA/CGA. Auditing is hard and just scanning the textbook is not enough; You need to understand the topics and more importantly be able to apply the knowledge to cases. He gives helpful hints for MT and final. Enjoyed his class.

no a good prof at all. average c- when students need at least a B+ for their CA credit and put all effort. He doesn't help students at all and bell curve

After the midterm he told us we focus too much on the text and need to pay more attention to the CICA Handbook. Before the final he said we pay too much attention to the CICA handbook and need to pay more attention to the textbook. Make up your mind!

Seems more interested in us reading CAS/Handbook and theory portions in general. Skims assigned homework at most. Then again, almost no one cared/attended due to the 8 am start. Term project IS time consuming so form a good group to prevent headaches. Drops good hints and does review for midterm/final. Fair man but can be a little picky in marking.

Explains very well all the materials and hints in class the most important topics that will be covered. You have to study alot of the materilas he wants you to study. the M/C on midterm and final are brutal its, questions are okay but expects you to write so much details on them.

Save yourself $100+ and don't buy the book. Requiring students to read the entire CICA HB isn't the most effective way to test. Difficult to get a good grade in his class. He's a good lecturer but a hard marker. His marking is subjective due to the qualitative nature of the course and his reliance on HB as a guide. He's the only one teaching this.

Kaplan knows what he is talking about. He will give you hints as to what to expect on the exams and then will bring the topics he said would show up on the exams, so he does not trick you. However he assigns way too much readings of which only 60% is examinable. Should consider cutting down on the assgined material!

I found this class extremely easy. I got A on the midterm and killed the final. He's a nice guy. His lectures are kind of boring but he knows his stuff real well. Get on his good side and you'll enjoy the class. Course requires a lot of memorization. There is no numerical component in the course. I'd take the advanced auditing with him for sure.

I attended every class and ended up with a C-. His assignment is easy, but his midterm and final exam are hard. He drops alot of hints on what is on the final exam, however he is a HARD MARKER! Warning: He drops hints on whats on the exam, however he is a tough marker on the tests. Be careful! Practice textbook questions...i should have done that.

A lot of emphasis is on CICA handbook but I assure you, reading the book and marking slide notes on the book is very helpful;read some specific CICA sections (specially examples) but book helps a lot. I did not do it for the mid-term but did that for final, and it improved my mark.He really does have a lot of knowledge and its useful in real life.

Can be boring at times but does give hints as to whats on the test. Marking scheme is a bit tough though and memorizing parts of the CICA handbook isn't really a good indicator :S

This prof drops hints like crazy. Take careful note of his suggestions and read the handbook sections and articles he says are important. Don't worry when you can't copy his slides fast enough! (frustrating)A very experienced and knowledgeable man. Likes to chat with students and discuss current issues.

Took 521 with him and it wasn't bad. However, his teaching quality has gone down the drain as the years went by. Not sure if he really cares anymore. He used to give hints on what to study, but he has gotten a lot lazier in doing it. If you want a good mark, you have to suck up pretty bad. Don't bother buying the book - waste of money.
