I sure don't get any negative reviews. YES, Mendoza makes you think! NO, Mendoza doesn't give you easy formulas for writing your paper. He values YOUR perspective. You are never asked to regurgitate his perspective. As along as you can support your arguments with a thoughtful analysis you'll do well. I LOVED this and his other classes.

He really cares for his students and takes the time to provide additional help and feedback for the essays and papers. I felt like I wasn't good enough for his class. He picks good reading materials and writing prompts. Native American Literature class was okay.

Prof. Mendoza is a gifted intellectual who likes to give students free reign. What he wants from you is sharp, original critical thinking. He intentionally gives very little direction, because he wants to know what you think, unfiltered. If that bothers you, Mendoza isn't your prof. But if you love to learn and explore, you'll love him.

Worse professor in my college career. Acted like your life is supposed to revolve around the class and disregarded everything in your life. His feedback was repetitive and he didn't even elaborate what was needed, if you even ask in person- he will state the same thing without giving any examples or any direction. Don't waste your time and money.

Dr. Mendoza creates a dynamic learning environment in which deep critical thinking and intellectual growth are fostered. He gives great feedback on written assignments, and encourages his students to be individuals. I can't thank him enough! If you are interested in exploring ideas, take him!

This class is a horror and has no sense of direction. The guy continously goes on tangents and im sorry but his stuttering just tops it off with the unnecessary reading and writing that DONT EVEN MATCH THE COURSE NAME. it would have been helpful if he changed the course discription, until then dont be surprised to be disappointed.

I love Mendoza. Best professor I've ever had. Will take as many classes as I can with him. There is a lot of reading and writing but it's to be expected with a lit class. He's there to help you. Take whatever class you can with him. He's amazing. Super nice guy and stories for days. Books are cheap. Can't recommend him enough!

I've taken two classes with Mendoza, and am currently taking my third. My favorite however was the Sacred Texts and I ADORED IT! Mendoza is the best at CSUSM. He's very kind, gives great feedback, and always willing to help. I will forever be thankful to have had such a knowledgeable professor within the department. I recommend taking him for sure!!

Really great class a lot of writing, and very reading heavy the first few weeks, however as long as you hit the main points you will do fine, a short paper every week and 2 10-15 page papers for midtermfinal. and we got to watch an awesome hitchcock movie every week!!!

Very nice guy. The films were great and the teacher is very supportive. This is a LTWR class so plan on writing. 3-4 page paper due every week and a midterm and final each 10-15 pages. He is however not very critical on the grading as long as you show that you undertsood the subject.

I lost all interest in the class. It's really taught, class discussion has no direction. He goes off on tangents about his life all the time, that don't relate to the text and at the end of the day expects too much from students when he isn't actually teaching, he is proctoring.

The class is boring, the focus is the Native American culture which he tries to insist we need "more than a semester" to learn. All you do is discuss from the readings which are ridiculously long. The 2 10pg papers per semester are hell. He gives you a chance to rewrite but if you cannot keep up you will hate your life.

This class is garbage. Not what I was expecting at all. Great guy, but his academic focus is on Native American culture and he wastes your time trying to convince you that it somehow matters. Do not take if you value your education, this class has nothing to offer.

Mendoza is the SWEETEST man you'll ever meet. He is passionate about literature and really cares about his students. The subject matter was not too interesting, but Dr. Mendoza makes the classes interesting. There are two 10-page papers during the semester and that's it. You'll LOVE this class!

He's a nice guy. I took his Western Class. A paper a week and then two 10-15 pagers, one for the midterm and one for the final. Class could get a little boring at times due to dull movies but bearable. He's extremely willing to help you with your papers so don't be afraid to ask for help.

I couldn't stand his arrogance and all his stories about how awesome he is. Lots of reading (7 boring books.) Every class is student discussion driven which bored me to tears every time. He didn't like my papers until I gave up and just wrote what I thought everyone else was writing. Says he loves original unique people until you actually try it.

I have had Dr. Mendoza for LTWR 300a, LTWR 450 and LTWR 465- He is the best literature professor at CSUSM! I definitely recommend taking him; if you don't you are missing out! All you have to do is show up to class, discuss the books and write two papers and you will get an A :)

Best Literature teacher in the department! Gives you the most flexibility and freedom in writing papers for his class- he really wants you to think and learn! Fairly easy class too- show up to discuss and write 2 papers. That's it. Plus he will really challenge your preconceived notions about what constitutes writing and "good" literature.

I've taken 465 and 300A, as well as The Western class. At first, I could not stand his classes. However, I grown to enjoy his lectures over three semesters, here's why: If you follow his instructions he lets you write what ever you want on the two 10-15 pg. papers and he makes you a better a writer. Challenging in a good way. Should teach all GEW
