Absolutely wonderful teacher. Material is difficult but Dr. Turnbull really explains reactions well and patterns become visible. One of my favorite teachers of all time. He will help with homework or review. Tests can be hard if not prepared but he does his best to get you there, posts past exams and does review sessions. Very funny, dry humor too.

Three grades for OChem I: best two out of three exams, and the final. Dr. Turnbull made it seem like cake. However, be aware that the class requires a lot of memorization, so while I never had to read the book, I showed up to every lecture and made sure that I memorized the types of reactions on my own. Don't be intimidated. He is a very nice guy.

Takes a really feared class and makes it enjoyable. Great teacher during lectures; makes sure his students actually learn the material instead of memorizing. Thus his exams are usually hard, but not overwhelming like other organic chemistry classes. The students responsibilities are clearly defined for exams.

Dr. Turnbull is extremely intelligent and overall a great teacher. The class itself is very difficult and requires a lot of studying. He does a very good job in lectures and offers plenty of practice exams and online notes. Take him!

Dr. Turnbull is an amazing teacher! He is really, really intelligent, but at the same time very difficult. Know you are going to study daily to get a good grade in this class but he is more than accommodating to meet outside of it!

Awesome prof! The class is not easy but he made it interesting and cared that we knew the info. Chemistry was never better than with a Scottish accent. He is willing to meet with students anytime and seems to really care that we get the material. Best prof for chemistry, especially if you want to go to med school! Awesome guy!

Dr. Turnbull's lecture notes were extremely helpful and I would recommend purchasing them. He uses the lecture notes during class and I didn't use the textbook. His previous exams are posted online. The class requires a good amount of outside work but he wants his students to do well and makes sure they understand the information.

so i wrote the comment below me and i just wanted to add a few things. while he is a very good lecturer, he is the chair of the dept and his availability sucks! his tests are always definitely harder than the years before but the good thing is he curves it. if you do the work, you will at least get a B. Getting an A is tough, very tough.

Dr. Turnbull's approach to Ochem makes it easy to digest. He is patient and welcomes any and all question so every student feels comfortable. Due to the subject matter, it's not an easy course and will require a great deal of time outside of class (6-8hrs/wk) to thoroughly understand the material. Exams are easy since old ones are posted online.

This class is and will be a very challenging class. Dr. Turnbull really makes you work to understand organic chemistry. He is a man who is not unapproachable and will yield any questions during and after class, and is always available to help via email or office hours. Attendance to his class is mandatory and his notes help. It was worth the work.

Absolutely wonderful Chemistry professor. The best I've ever had, and probably the best in the department. Extremely clear, always open for questions, does examples in every lecture and helpful during office hours. His tests are tough; doing practice exams is a must. I highly recommend him to anyone taking OChem.

the lab exam had a ton of trick questions. i don't understand the people who left within a half hour of receiving the exam. if you keep going over questions, you'll notice the trick parts... i stayed in there for over and hour and got an A. he's not responsible for the lab quizzes or anything... read the manual every though!

Great professor! Challenging, but also very helpful. Very respectful of students. Make sure to study old tests on web site and buy those class notes! All lectures are based on the notes. Wants students to apply what they've learned, so rote memory will only go so far; however MUST know all reactions by heart. Good luck!
