Absolutely amazing professor. The class was about 35 people and while it was mainly lecture-based he invited every student to join the discussion. Apart from that, he was an amazing lecturer and I felt like I learned so much every single class.

He is very intelligent and makes the difficult material easier to grasp, honestly one of the best professors I have had at Wesleyan. I would absolutely take another class with him! There are 2-3 essays and his grading is fair.

rude, underprepared, terrible discussion leader, only accepts comments hell agree with, out of touch honestly I am mad he has such good reviews on here - not only because they misled me, but also because (based on what I experienced) he doesnt even come close to deserving them.

This man is brilliant. One of my favorite professors at Wesleyan. He articulates complex material easily. So sweet, funny, and inspirational. Made me become an English major (would've done COL if I had been a freshman).

Narrative and Ideology course on films from 1980 to the present. Extremely well taught. Tololyan is one of the best professors at Wes--don't miss out! Always available outside of class, delightful and conversational to no end.

I graduated from Wes 7 years ago. Tololyan was absolutely my favorite professor. Still now when I am reading an interesting piece of literature I think about the fascinating discussions we had in that class (title: post war lit... i think..?). Anyways, do yourself a favor and take one of his classes. I was an Econ major, but glad I made the time!

Brilliant and hardworking and appreciates comic genius-- in student writing too if it's there... inspired me to become an adjunct and failed novelist! In my own classes, I still make references to his Turkish coffee, and although I didn't study Crying of Lot 49 with Tololyan, I am indebted to his passion for Pynchon whenever I teach it.

Tendency to pidgeon-hole students: feminist, scientist, etc. Old school charm.

An exceptional lecturer who is always willing to talk outside of class and actually seems open to ideas other than his own. Unlike most of very PoMo Wesleyan, he looks to religious imagery and elements in recent American fiction, rather than concentrating on factors like gender and race.

Utterly brilliant man. I took Reading Theories with him--every time he made a reference the class didn't understand, he'd give an indepth, fascinating explanation--his tangents are as good as the syllabus. Very kind, approachable. Ask him about the time he was before a firing squad.
