Kim Karpen-Hayes will go out of her way to help you. However you have to put in the effort. The subject matter is not an easy one for most people and I think they end up taking out their frustrations with it on the teacher. Do the homework, study on your own,make good use of the many resources and pay attention in class. Thats all there is to it

Comment:

Her exams are tough but after hang of her exams, some of the questions came from the quizzes but she would mix up the questions. I've studied so hard for this class, went to the asc lab for help and ended up getting a high C in the class. First C ever in a class. There are quizzes for each chapter 4 exams 1 dropped. Final is not dropped.

I really enjoyed this class, and this teacher was really upbeat and fun. She teaches useful every day knowledge as well as the coursework. She also lets you message her outside of the class if you ever have trouble. Kim is great.

I really enjoyed this teacher's way of teaching. She engaged that class by telling stories, asking questions, and offering help to whomever would take it. I have never been a huge fan chemistry, and I was worried about taking this class, since my first professor was inept. However, I can honestly say she is one of the best science teachers I've had

I don't know where this teacher is on the autism spectrum but it's relatively high. Thankfully this is her last semester teaching. She has spent upwards of 10 minutes telling us all how most of us shouldn't be in her class. Then explaining to us that she can't believe how some of us don't get this stuff. She will help you after insulting you.

Would not recommend taking her. She can be very rude and even says she doesn't care if we like her or not bc IRSC will always ask her to teach classes regardless if we complain about her.. Which should be a red flag right there. She is also not very approachable to ask questions which makes the class that much harder.

She is the most judge mental teacher I have ever had. You can not ask her any questions without her making you feel plain dumb which is not what a teacher should do. She does not allow enough time for you to take your test because she needs "enough time to grade them after and review it". Take her if you are okay with a teacher belittling you.

Really loved this teacher! Chemistry is hard, but if you ask for help she's willing to give it to you. She genuinely cares about students. Tells hilarious stories & is really nice. Studying is a must in this class with any teacher, but she made it bareable. 4 tests lowest dropped (except for final) & quiz for ever chapter gone over. Recommend her

She is at first very hesitant to help because she thinks you should know what you are doing, but when she sees you do not know what you are doing she helps, a lot. The Lab for Chemistry 2 was no joke, you have to get everything precisely correct to get an A. But she is a great teach and fun to be around, but will rush you.

She is definitely an enthusiastic teacher but she can get off topic easily and gets angry at questions she believes are dumb (even after she tells you there are no stupid questions). She obviously cares about her students but comes across as degrading if you do bad on a test. Overall she's a nice person but its a tough class.

Very great professor. It is IMPORTANT that you read chapters/DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS. My stubbornness to those two things got me a C. very helpful. will jump over any obstacle to make sure to succeed. But I suggest taking the class where you meet two times a week. One night a week just didn't cut it, especially if you miss one class.

Fantastic teacher! Took time to go over any questions, gave extra-credit, even told students to call her at home if they are having any issues learning the material. Took some time to teach "real science". Overall great teacher. Definitely would take her again.

I never did any ratings for any proffs... But kim is a great proffs nd i believe i should do it for her. The first week i thought she was tough nd i even failed the first test.. But she wont let you slide of the track .. She will always keep up with you... Nd make sure you are doing everythin right..i will STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend her..

Professor Kim is a great teacher! She does expect you to do the homework though. But it counts as 15% of your grade. If you try to do the homework you earn 15 points. She also assigns practice tests which help a lot in preparing for the tests! She is very nice and will answer any questions as long as she hasn't gone over it 100 times. Made chem fun

I have Professor Karpen-Hays for CHM lecture and lab,and for me personally,the lab is much easier.For lecture,write down ALL notes,do the HW,and spend at least 3 hours a day if not more reviewing the material.Last minute studying will not work for this class.She is the most amazing chemistry teacher and she truly wants for her students to do well.

She was so helpful. offered plenty of extra credit for those that were struggling. tests are ok and get to drop lowest. lots of hw but it helped to understand the class anyways. i would recommend her any day!!!!! taking her for chem1046 too!

Great teacher! Extremely helpful, posts everything you need online. NEED TO READ TEXTBOOK though, she'll pull questions from it that aren't covered in class. But she makes the hard stuff enjoyable to understand and to work with.
