Prepare to work your butt off. You'll probably feel pretty good about yourself after surviving the class though.

This class was one of the most awful university experiences I ever had. Prof. Latta was very cold and unapproachable. She refused to give me my grade for the class stating I didn't send her my final paper after I sent it 3 times. I had to get the head of the department involved. Don't take her!

Required 8 textbooks. Heavy emphasis on writing, even though course is posted as literature. Difficult professor, but learned a lot about writing. Final grade does not reflect personal effort. Passionate about subject, but not about student.

Had her for women's literature, a lot of non-text book reading. A nice teacher but pretty disorganized, schedule would change from what she said Tuesday to what happens thursday. Some fairly interesting material, and a lot of class discussions. Take it but don't expect a blow off lit course or to sit around talking about "Little Women"

I had her for Women's Lit, and I liked the focus of the class (women and genocide/war). I thought Dr. Latta was very interesting and some of the books we read were really good. Overall, I thought the course was very disorganized and confusing. I feel like I didn't learn enough from this class considering all of the reading (and film viewing).

Incredibly unorganized. Changed the syllabus constantly and at the last minute. Had no coherent way of grading papers. Made us do performance of texts rather than teaching us to read them critically.

I am currently a senior, and she is definitely one of my favorite teachers that I've had. I'm not even an English major -- I'm getting a minor but I found that she is very open minded and she encouraged great discussion.

I had her for Womens Lit, really interesting although the class was pretty much about wars, not women. Regardless, it was interesting and fun discussion. Extremely libreal views that were constantly shoved down our throats so it was intimidating to participate.

very disorganized, picked favorites in the class. graded very unfairly-almost like she didn't bother to read the papers at all. wasted class time by talking about nothing. if you don't think like her you are wrong and get a bad grade. she made use buy way too many books and we spent ONE day talking about them. the syllabus was always wrong.

Professor did not grade fairly, and often went off on tangents. Assigned mandatory acting projects and made them worth as much as all the papers. Her views, especially those on gender and women's rights, were more important than anything else. This class could have been great due to the material, but it wasn't at all.

Professor was highly disorganized, unnecessarily combative, and graded unfairly and would not discuss methods in person. Also quite pointedly favored males over females. Her viewpoints and thoughts are most important. Not available during office hours or via email.

Professor Latta brings a great deal of enthusiasm and brilliance to the classroom. She totally knows the material and can be a little bit intimidating at times. Even though she's a really hard grader she's helpful and fair. This was a seminar, so she didn't lecture much. But she did a great job of guiding discussion and drawing out every studen

She seems nice at first...but then begins trying to shove liberal propaganda down your throat at every possible chance. Sickening. If you don't agree with her interpretation, you are wrong because you are "only an undergraduate."

She always answers a question with a question, which makes me wonder if she knows the material at all. Her personal views get in the way of her lectures, and she's constantly going off on tangents that have nothing to do with the class, like translating into French or talking about the history of a single word.

At her best, Latta is enthusiastic, helpful, energetic, and familiar with the material. This class started out strong with an in depth look @ Paradise Lost, but faded towards the end as she put less effort into lectures. A fair grader. I enjoyed the seminar setting but am unsure about how effective she may be as a lecturer.

She means well, and is a very nice individual, but her assignments were often unclear and her grading was often confusing. She is enthusiastic, but can be a bit flakey when you get right down to it. It's all an issue of personal taste, and I personally would not recommend her.

I had Dr. Latta for both my Junior Seminar and as a Professor in Pitt in London. She is laidback, easy to talk to about class and personal matters. You have to do some work and can't act like an idiot in her class, but you will learn alot. Sure she can be a bit flighty but it doesn't affect the class. She is a great Professor and friend.
