Awesome guy! Really does care about the incoming freshman, he understands the stresses of being a new college student. Makes it interesting, uploads the book so you don't have to pay for it, records his lecture in case you miss a day. You really have to try hard to fail. But down side he doesn't post grades on canvas, have to meet w/him. NO FINAL!

Dr. Mecklenburg's out-of-class resources like videos and powerpoints really strengthened my understanding of the material. He cares more about helping students learn than he cares about attandance and strict deadlines. I would take this professor again, he was a funny dude.

Phenomenal guy and even better professor. I genuinely looked forward to going to his class. I learned a lot and didn't feel stressed by the coursework. He is entertaining, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend taking a course of his if given the option.

Wow, I am just finishing up taking a genetics class by Dr. Mecklenburg. He is such an intelligent, funny guy. I feel like I could invite Dr. Mecklenburg into my home and have a beer with him. He's the best!

Dr. Mecklenburg is the best professor I have ever had in all my years of education. His Drosophila research is inspirational and he was always enthusiastic to teach an in-depth, informative, and captivating lectures. I highly recommend this professor.

I took Genetics from Kirk in the late 90's. I enjoyed this class far more than I ever thought I would and, in fact, made me contemplate grad school in Biology. As an alternative student, Kirk gave me a great deal of respect for my life knowledge and experience and I always felt more like a peer than a student. Class took work but worth it.

Mecklenburg seemed more interested in his fruitfly research than the students he was teaching genetics to. Never returns emails, exams written to take longer than the exam period, office hours almost nonexistent (better off catching him in the hall after class). I suggest memorizing ppt's! Huge curve at the end of the semester though!

Professor Mecklenburg is super passionate about his work and biology and it shows! Lectures were interesting although bio isn't my favorite subject. Prof is really understanding about arranging makeup tests, etc. as long as you approach him ahead of time. Tests are not bad as long as you study and come to class!

The tests were way harder than they should have been for a 100 level bio class.. all short answer essay and definitions with no word bank. Says that attendance is not mandatory but his powerpoints are absolutely useless unless you are there for lectures.

I loved Mecklenburg for L101 lab because he was helpful and such an easy grader. Genetics was hell. His PowerPoints hardly help and he was never available outside of class. Don't expect t be in contact with him online. He makes exams long and hard enough that you shouldn't be able to finish them. He does reuse quiz questions and homework annually.

Great professor for intro to biology for people who know nothing about the topic. He lets you know exactly what you need to do to pass the class. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go to get a good grade on the exams. Only grades in class are 5 exams.

Your entire grade is based upon a few tests, and the tests are REALLY hard. I guess if you spend the 8-10 hours a week studying that he suggests, then it would be ok. But, who has that much time to spend on what's supposed to be an intro class?
