I took his class for the 1-week sesh before maymester and I was appalled at the amount of work he assigned for a 1-credit class. Hes nice and you want to like him, but his grading method is rediculous and you dont seem to stand a chance if you dont already come into the class knowing what youre doing. Id avoid him if you're looking for an easy A.

He is a very enthusiastic guy which will make you excited about the course, but his grading is extremely subjective and nit picky. If you master the material completely you will get a B. It's only if you think like him that you'd end up with an A.

Nice guy, but can be amgiguous in what he wants. The tests get progressively easier, there are four of them, and there are 2 projects. There are activities pretty much every class that aren't too bad and help boost your grade. I have a B+.

an mixture of interesting material taught in an excrutiating way. 2 projects, 3 tests, and a final plus class activities every class. you can get an A in this class if you answer the learning objectives before the tests. but don't expect him to answer your questions...you're there to "think for yourself"! can be both frustrating and beneficial.

i read complaints on here before taking this class and most of them were completely unfounded. i hate science, barely tried and i'm gonna end up with a B or better. he IS very specific in what he wants so if u follow that, you have no problems. ENTHUSIASTIC and SO nice!

A little picky with his grading but test questions come straight from class learning objectives, which you can answer before the test and have him check(no excuse not to do well). He's very bad at handing projects back within a reasonable amount of time.

HORRIBLE GRADING SYSTEM. stretches to take points off and the points are worth too many % points. if it's not written is the exact words he wants it's wrong. dont bother listening to him when he says to hand in corrections or arguements for the test to

I think 3 of 4 tests were on Monday. Too hard for GSci. Grading system (point) sucks. The ten teachers' pets post the good comments. I watch 75% of the class talk behind his back and grimmace at their grades. Avoid this SPEAK SCIENCE TERMS OR DIE professo

One of the most discouraging classes I have. Must put answers in exact ways or he takes pts off each time. A few point/half point off adds up since he uses the point system - tests only worth like 25! Each point is like 5%. Avoid if you can. NOT easy.

Despite what others say, he is an excellent teacher. My whole class complains about him but that is because they don't realize that not every class is going to be set up the way your major classes are. Show up, pay attention, and you'll do fine. easy class

His notes are very good and gives good examples. His teaching and grading style do not match at all. If you do not use the word he is thinking of in his head, you don't full credit. asks for your thoughts, but does not take them seriously.

As a senior, this is the worst class I've taken at JMU, I have more work in his class than any of my 400 level Business classes. He treats you like you're stupid whenever you ask a question, and his grading and projects are ridiculous.

"Hi I'm Dr. Murphy and unless you don't write out exactly the scientific terms for something on a test I don't know that you know exactly precisely what you're talking about and you get a C. I'm not being picky, as a scientist this is how we are.&quo

Nice guy but makes it hard to like him. We are sick of his precise ways. Have to write out EXACTLY what he says or he takes points off. 3 half-credit answers can turn that A into a C. Tests are too short and projects are crazy (LONG) for gened.

If i started to beat this guy up, everyone in my class would join me... he doesn't answer questions, marks you down on stupid/non-bio related stuff, and makes me HATE going to lab. i would drop out of school if all my teachers were kit.
