A truly great professor; cares passionately about the subject, clearly wants to ignite student's desire to learn. I always hope those in class realize they are in the presence of a gifted teacher.

Boring, lectures don't usually get to the point. Hard to follow at times. Not a hard class if you study through the "Notes and Study Questions". He stopped taking attendance after 1.5 month but be sure to come to class to get extra credits. Easy A class so far but if you are really interested in philosophy, this class may not be a right choice.

Very boring, hard to follow and impossible to understand!! He talks in circles, with the class never really knowing what he's talking about! Does not generate class participation at all! It's sad, there were a lot of people who were into the subject- prior to this class.

Burke is a pretty good teacher. Make sure you study for the midterm and the final with the study guide that he provides. He's really enthusiastic about teaching. Philosophy is just an overall boring subject but he tended to make it somewhat interesting. There are two papers that you have to write but they're not too bad.

He is a very traditional teacher where all of class is lecture, and the only times there isn't lecture is when there's a test (obv) or when you play a jeopardy type game. He's a good teacher if you want a straightforward and serious class.

boring and all of the notes you can buy in the deanza store. Easy A because he curves everything but you have to sit through the boring lectures.

People in my class that are interested in Philosophy, hate his class. Nobody understands what he says, his notes don't make sense, and he lectures AT the class, never getting them engaged. People always fall asleep or surf the web on laptops. 2 easy, short papers. If you self study and kinda get his lecture, you'll pass. Attendence 1/2 the quarter

Easy class! Just really boring! Easy A, he grades on a curve so if you fail a test, you will get a C. Two writing assignments and two tests! Just make sure you show up every day, he takes attendance every now and then. Recommend teacher, just boring subject.

I come to class everyday, I take notes like mad but he talks so quickly. I walk out with a C. His words loops around and around nothing. I tried really hard for this class and Still a C. I had no idea what he was saying and his tests are hard. Good luck if your taking him though.

It's important to note that you folks take other courses of philosophy prior to phil 1 - this is history of philosophy. The way he teaches, he assumes that you already know how to write in a philosophical manner (not english-style) and expects you to already take critical thinking. Most of my high GPA friends couldn't get an A either.

class isn't totally mandatory, he takes attendance like once or twice a week. his tests are pretty easy because he gives you a lot of hints the day before the test. the material itself is confusing and not very interesting, but it doesn't matter because the test is basically his t/f section in the study notes.

The most boring teacher you will ever get. His quiz are all based on bias perception and the grading is ineffective. For our finals, he reviewed over 100 practice questions, NONE OF THEM were even close to being on the finals.

You don't need to attend class all the time. But he randomly takes attendance. Also, u really just need to attend class to copy down notes. But his Notes & Study Questions, no book. All quizzes are extra credit. One page paper. Only midterm and final: 50 multiple choice and one essay. Essay topics given before exam. Take him...good class!

this class was boring all year. He just gives you lectures then random quizes, usually on last day of the week. His midterm n final are relatively easy in that he tells you whats on there. He gives you this jeapardy questions for you to study so if you just do that n never go to class you should be fine. overal class was boring but easy

This is the most boring class I have ever had. He rambles on and on and on about the same thing over and over. It's an easy A but the class makes you want to hit your head on the desk repeatedly. I can honestly say that ive tried paying attention, but it's just wasnt possible.

I like philosophy, but as far as introductory classes go his is one of the worst. The less he knows about a certain subject the more he rambles (e.g. Taoism), and his notes are very unclear-they appear to be notes he took from college, then forgot the entire context from which he derived them. He plays favorites. Easy class; not recommended.

Fine teacher, I recommend him. The projects and tests aren't too hard, which is good since the concepts can be difficult to grasp. Everyone is complaining about him being boring, PLEASE people, he isn't a jester, & it isn't his job to entertain you. If you're looking to learn, take this teacher, if you're looking for laughs, then head to the circus

I find Philosophy to be really boring and not surprisingly, I fell asleep at the start of the quarter. However, the professor is very nice and knowledgeable. He made what was a boring class, very engaging and worth while. Highly recommended teacher!
