Larry Riley was very cold towards his students and seemed like he could care less about their academic success. He does help you become a better writer though. But if you are looking for a fun , personable, and kind professor. Hes not the one for you. Lots of writing and very interesting projects.

I made an attempt to have a professional relationship with him and he was helpful. The class was the hardest english class Ive ever taken and over half the class dropped out. If you do the work and listen to him then you will be okay. I think he is a good guy, but i was up late every friday night writing the papers. Correct papers for grade boost

Larry has this list of prohibited terms that he will knock you on using in class and on papers. If you catch him saying these terms make a deal with him to get extra credit for each time he says one and the class is an easy A. Class is super easy to work through if you can get around these terms. For the paper he has "out of class" days every week.

This is the type of professor that you dislike at the beginning of the semester because he's strict. I was intimidated by him to the point where I was afraid to participate in class and cried a few times. But looking back, I've learned the most from this class and regret ever hating writing papers. PS: don't use the word "it."

Riley was all over the place. He was very unclear on criteria for most assignments. However, he was a quick grader, with good feedback, and was available most of the time.

He is probably the best professor I have ever had. He does have a list of forbidden words but they actually make writing papers for his class easier because you have to be more descriptive about what you are writing instead of rambling on for no reason at the end of your paper. The word "it" is really not that hard to not use when writing.

He is a bit of an oddball, but he makes honest attempts to get to know you. He is a bit scatter brained, which can be very frustrating. Especially when he has convinced himself that he told you about an upcoming essay, which he then informs us that it is due next class. But aside from his absentmindedness, he is a good teacher. I wouldn't mind havi

Larry Riley is a great professor but only to great students. If you are looking for an easy class, this one is not the one for you. However, I learned more in this class than any other English class I have ever taken. Respect the professor and he will respect you.

Three papers overall, doesn't seem like you're actually writing papers. I actually really liked the class because it was formatted in a completely different way then I have ever seen.

One of my favorite professors that I will remember here at Ball State. At first he gives off the impression that he is strict and harsh but once you get to know him he is a joy to be around, his humor is one of a kind. I took him twice for two different courses and I always enjoyed going to class. The knowledge I gained from his courses is amazing.

He comes off really scary but he is actually super funny. I got an A or B on all but one of my papers (you have a small paper pretty much every week, but they aren't bad). Cancelled class a lot so we would have time to do work so we only had class once a week normally. Really nice old man.

After taking his class and reading the previous comments, he's changed his ways in the past few years. The most writing I'd ever done in a class before, he's very serious about his forbidden words, he docks you a letter grade (not auto F). If you answer or ask a question he is so picky with how everything needs to be worded, could tone it down.

Probably the worst professor I've had all year. He doesn't use blackboard or gradebook so you never know what grade you have in his class. If you try to get help or feedback from him, he'll blow you off and leave you with no more information than when you came in. If you have the option to switch professors... DO IT.

He's passible, but if you don't have to have him as a teacher like I did, I recommend looking in another direction. He is not very help nor clear, and trying to receive help is like pulling teeth. He also plays favorites. This is coming from someone who passed his class with an A-

I liked him as a professor overall but he gave some weird assignments like creating your own personal website and almost every paper will have something to do with Muncie. He has a list of forbidden words that you aren't allowed to use in your writing but you get used to it.

He's a really great teacher ! You either like him or NOT ! I love him. His sense of humor is hilarious to me and had us do some weird assignments. His 'Prohibited terms" helped me tremendously with my writing. Just show up for class and keep up with the assignments. You get to argue what participation grade you want also.

I LOVED Larry! Anyone who says otherwise is just out of their mind. He has a weird sense of humor but once you get it he is hilarious! I would take his class again! In fact I'm not taking 104 unless I can take it with him!

The assignments are boring, all related to Muncie, but they are easy. Not much extra research is needed. The forbidden words aren't a problem if you know how to search a word in a microsoft word document. If you are not tech-savvy this class might be difficult. An iWeb website is a major project in this class. He can really improve your writing.
