Do the homework. All of it. Every single question. Take him seriously when he says something will be hard. I ended up spending at least 30 hours a week studying and working for this class. Also, take the lab at the same time if you can - it will help you understand the material in better detail. The SI sessions are hit or miss.

Took Dr. Rohde for Genetics, Mol Bio, and Tissue Culture. I've never had to work as hard as I did in his Genetics course, and I've never learned so much before too. He is a real fountain of knowledge with answers to any inquiries you might have. Focuses on his past experiences a little too much during lectures.

Difficult course but amazing instructor. Be ready to open your mind to the world of genetics. He has a lot of great experience too. Loved this course, even though it was very demanding and difficult for me. If I wasn't already so invested into my degree coursework, I would've changed my major to focus on Genetics.

Genetics: quizzes make attendance mandatory. Text/homework vital to passing exams. Dev Bio: Attendance not mandatory but if you skip, even heavy reading will make it difficult to pass because of amount/difficulty of material. I recommend heavy reading and attendance for Dev Bio. He may seem scary but if you care, he will try to help you, so go ask.

Tissue culture was a great course. Labs were open access without assigned lab times. You will learn a lot. I had trouble with some of the experiments but this won't affect your grades as long as you keep working at them and develop better aseptic techniques. The TA was also great and helpful. Exams were tough, but study and you will do fine.

Study for this class! It can be annoying at the amount of content he gives, BUT it prepares you. I learned a lot. I suggest studying hard right out the gate. Lecture attendance isn't necessary, but you WILL need to make up what you miss because the entire book gets covered and entire book gets tested. I loved it, good professor, ez to approach.

Difficult class. Easy to talk to & wants to help his students. Really loves his job and passionate about genetics. I enjoyed taking this class, but you're going to have to work really hard to earn an A.

Knowing the homework is a big part of the test grade. Don't *DO* the homework... Simply go over it and make sure you understand it. Spend the rest of the time studying.

Intense and awesome class. The entire genetics book will be covered in a semester. LISTEN TO HIM.....HE TELLS YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO MAKE AN A IN THE CLASS. He is very fair and sometimes curves the tests. Plan on 3-4hrs/chapter of study... Read the book before class, take notes, DO THE HOMEWORK.

This class is SUPER hard. You will learn a lot, but try not to take it on with too many more courses. It's perfectly passable if you have lots of time to study, but Dr. Rohde moves through his notes ridiculously fast. Reading the textbook chapters before class helps so that you have a chance of understanding what he is talking about.

Molecular Bio Lab is awesome! I have never learned so much in a lab before. Rhode is very passionate about this class, and takes a class picture and puts them on the wall. It is a lot of work, writing pre and post labs, keeping your lab book up, but it is SO worth it, even for us Eco majors. Try not to let bad memories of Genetics scare you.

Very Difficult! Memorize your notes, especially where certain parts are * or capitalized in his notes. He's NOT forgiving if YOUR sick, he feels if he could teach while his appendix bursts, you can come to class. HE knows the stuff which makes it nice and he seems to actually love what he teaches, gets ME excited about the material that way!

Great instructor. Rarely do you still see instructors excited about what they teach. His test are tough. They seperate the rookies from the pros. So decide early on. Personally, I would like to see test questions that would apply more thinking. He's very challenging. Read the book that follow notes. You will not pass if you don't study. Awesome!!!!!

You will learn nothing from his lectures. You are on your own for learning the material. I found him to be very rude when I asked him anything. He teaches way above the student's level and his tests are ridiculously difficult...be sure to take them seriously. I would recommend taking this class alone as it is time consumming. Be prepared to work!

A good professor should "TEACH" a class. Please read the other reviews. You must read the book to learn anything at all about the material! What's the point of taking the class? This was a senior level course, yet you are not tested accordingly. Instead it's just another freshman level memorization class. I'm an A student & not impressed.

Need to really take his test (multiple choice) seriously. He will teach from a powerpoint slide, and you will learn nothing from the lecture. If you want to do well in his class. You are on your own with learning the materials. The best way to study is to skim the book, and then study the homework to inhance understanding. I learned a ton.
