Very sweet, definitely makes public speaking a lot easier... this is coming from someone who started off terrified of giving speeches. I highly recommend her if you hate public speaking or if you're just not good at it. She made this class a breeze for me!

She's a little hippyish and is a very liberal person. She loves her students and definitely eases the mood for students who have trouble speaking in front of people. You get to present on things that interest you, which is a plus. Don't expect to learn anything though. All this class is good for is public speaking practice.

One of THE BEST profs I've had. Hands on learning & u def. have to be prepared to learn in an unconventional manner. Had her COM201,WS200 &Int.prsnl Com. Go to class, participate, and do the work. Barely used books,strayed from syllabus &barely any tests. Loves her students & wants them to succeed. WS200 had an optional retreat at the end-go to it!

Such a free spirit! You wont learn a thing, but you'll have fun doing it. Very easy, comfortable, not strict, fun discussions. If you have a fear of public speaking this is your lady... Do not buy the text book because you never use it. Lets you have 5 absences before she starts dropping your grade. Very liberal, if that bugs you stay away

GREAT TEACHER!!!! If your terrified of speaking she is the teacher to take. Makes you feel really comfortable and will not pick you apart. Fair grader and is not strict in any aspect of her class. You will build a lot of confidence and learn commmunication tools you will carry with you. Earned 3.5 with no text book and a fear of public speaking

Laurel is a genuinely nice person. BUT..the class was extremely unorganized and unstructured. We did not receive a syllabus until a week into the class. Class "requires" article reading and 8 response papers, a mid-term and a final-both essays. Pretty easy class but I felt like I was wasting my time being there. Easy 300 level, just have patience.

Professor Laurel is the greatest. She made all of the students in the class feel very relaxed. Public speaking was my biggest fear and she made it easy for me to conquer that fear. If you need to take this class, definitely take it with her.

She ought to improve her communication skills instead of using the F word all the time in class. Shame on the people who gave her a job at Oakland.

She may be hot, EXTREMELY hot, but don't take this course if you don't want to learn anything about groupwork, WHICH IS WHAT THE CLASS IS ABOUT! All she talks about is how the world is doomed and how humans need to take better care of the earth. SHE IS VERY LIBERAL FYI. Fantastic and eye opening. She's not kidding on the first day of class when she says that this class will change your life. It's a little overwhelming, like the first time you put on prescription glasses and see the world with clear vision; it takes a while to get used to but you would never go back to life knowing how blurred & distorted it was.

Laurel is very personable, she explains everything down to an elementary level, and if you still have questions she is happy to help you. Due dates are always negotiable.
